Question about free online movies

I was recently given a link to a site for free online movies for new releases. Are these kinds of sites legit? Or can you get into trouble using them?

For example: movie2k

Re: Question about free online movies

No online movie website unless you have to pay for it is legit. Limewire wasn't legit. Torrents aren't legit. It's illegal to use them, but people still do. I know one that I used to use got shut down a few years ago by the US government, I don't know whether they can track who watches it, but if you're worried about getting into trouble for it, I wouldn't do it. I just googled movie2k, and the fact that you can watch and download it for free says to me that it's not legit. I clicked on the link and it brought up an advert for Play 888...

MarigoldLesley gave me the link on Twitter and I visited the site, but never used it. I just had a feeling that I shouldn't use it and thought I'd ask for more information about it. I don't even know what Play 888 is. Thanks for replying Louise, and helping me confirm my suspicion. :D

This is all correct. In addition, a lot of "free" content providers are malvertised, or spread using malware to advertise their service so you see their ads. I would be very careful using these services, you might stumble upon active exploits and other malicious programs.

Also, this is best in "Computers" as the Help forum serves questions directly linked to the forum itself.

Play 888 is some spam gambling thing I think, I closed it pretty quickly. Things like LoveFilm and Netflix are legit because you have to have a subscription and pay for them, but like most of life, if something's for free, there's probably something dodgy about it. Glad I could help :)

Re: Question about free online movies

No, all dodgy and they can seriously mess up your computer too. People who frequent such sites often find their computers riddled with viruses.

Netflix and Lovefilm are the way forward. You don't have to pay very much and you get great choice in movies and great service. I, personally, use LoveFilm and have never had any problems with them. New releases are sent to me as soon as I request them, and the choice of movies and TV on demand is top notch.

Re: Question about free online movies

I never trust "free online movie" sites because they are usually riddled with viruses. If I can't find a free movie on YouTube, I just deal with Redbox or Netflix.

Whoa! Just realized mine and MadamPince's comments are almost identical. Sorry about that...

Re: Question about free online movies

If they are an official site, where you can legit watch them then fine.... Still, my connection is rubbish so that by the time they load - the next one in the series will be out :(

For example, I tried to listen to some Deadmau5 on youtube the other day.... a 7min video took 10 minutes to load!!!!, by which time it just decided to troll me by crashing.....

Re: Question about free online movies

Probably not and these pages contain a lot of computer viruses so be carefull what you open.. I got a Trojan from one these pages.. Beside now a lot of full-length movies are on Youtube soo you don't need these suspisios sites.. I'm also sure KickAssTorrent is safe to download or risk those 5€ for a original DVD.. DVD prices fall quick unlike CD price.. I got Harry Potter DVD for 4,50€ a year ago..

Re: Question about free online movies

Well I don't think you will get in trouble for using them, the owners of the site are the ones who will get in trouble for sharing pirated content, but still wouldn't recommend it, as most of the guys above said, these sites are probably riddled with all sorts of malware, so i don't think it's worth the risk, especially if the site is asking for permissions to use java (as most of them do) I did use one of these sites, but it was shut down a couple of months back. never really had any problems with it, but you never know.
and also as Nucky Luciano said, there are mostly safe torrent sites, but that is straight out piracy, and will get you in trouble more likely than these so called free streaming sites, so you should be really careful if you want to use their services (in some countries it's monitored alot more than in others)

Re: Question about free online movies

Depends on what country you're in. Also, kickasstorrents is currently safe, but a lot of sites log your IP. Use private browsing to be safe. Also. One way people get in trouble is overdoing it. Don't seed, and don't download stuff constantly. The volume of data can get immense, especially HD movies or music.

Re: Question about free online movies

This is actually related, but I once removed the tag off of my mattress and a whole SWAT team broke through into my house, repelling down from the roof and breaking through my windows, lol. I didn't know that that really would happen, lol. :)

P.S. Now that I think about it, why didn't they just break through the door, lol? Knocking was a last resort for them, for some reason, after all else fails, lol. :)
