Alternative titles for the books

I love all the titles in the series, but its always fun to think up different titles :D
Mine;

Harry Potter and the Mirror Of Erised
Harry Potter and the Heir Of Slytherin
Harry Potter and the Marauders Map
Harry Potter and the Tri-Wizard Tournament
Harry Potter and the Department of Mysteries
Harry Potter and the Phoneix Lament
Harry Potter and the Battle of Hogwarts

Not as good as the originals of course, but was fun thinking them up!

Re: Alternative titles for the books

So of these are quite good. I will just point out a few things
Harry Potter and the Tri-Wizard Tournament

Harry Potter and the Battle of Hogwarts

These titles give too much information in just 3 words. And readers and definitely no supposed to know that there is a battle of Hogwarts before they have turned over the first page.
Harry Potter and the Department of Mysteries

A title like this may lead the reader to wonder why it was named that. This leads them to finding out information in the plot before it is revealed in the book.

Besides that, I think these are fine titles, but to tell you the truth, I love the original ones :rotflmao:

You know that JKR was about to choose as title for the fourth book, Harry Potter and the Tri-Wizard Tournament?

Haha this is funny :) No I'd rather stay with the original ones, like someone said before: you may not reveal so much with a title. :)

Doesn't mean she can't use the title 'Walpurgis' if she chooses to. It's not under copyright or trademark law.

Cedric Diggory and the not known yet
Cedric Diggory and still not known
Cedric Diggory and the new Quidditch captain & seeker
Cedric Diggory and the triwizard champion

If Dumbledore rigged the house cup then three Gryffindors shouldn't have lost 50 house points, they were winning the house cup.
They lost house 50 points each for being up at night, then did detention in the Forbidden Forest. Very harsh punishment, Dumbledore knew that and rewarded the Gryffindors for saving the school, after losing house points for a harsh punishment and now shut up about the house cup and the houses.

Re: Alternative titles for the books

suggesting that giving away to much og the story in a title is a bad thing isn't a good argument. I think Percy Jacksons titles are to the point.

Anyway this is what I would name them.

HP and Hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. Pretty plain and it is more about the introduction to the school than it is about the stone.
OR the first book could have been titled Harry Potter the boy who lived.
HP and the Chamber of secrets was a perfect title I wouldn't change it.
HP and the Animagus of Azkaban. I just like the title.
HP and the Triwizard Cup. OR HP and the rise of the dark arts.
HP and the Ministry of Magic. It was more of a battle story against the ministry than it was against Voldemort.
HP and the Unbreakable Vow.
HP Hallows or Horcruxes. It was a choice he had to make. Obtaining the Hallows sure helped his cause, but in the end none of that mattered so long as any of the horcruxes survived.

Those are my titles.

Re: Alternative titles for the books

I'm not very creative but here goes:

1. Harry Potter and the Secret of Hogwarts (the secret being not only the Philosopher's Stone, but also the existence of Hogwarts and the wider Wizarding World.)
2. Harry Potter and Heir of Slytherin (it's already been suggested but I like it a lot and it's the only alternative that I can think of that doesn't give too much away.)
3. Harry Potter and the Marauders (again, it's already been suggested but it's the only one that sounds good and doesn't give too much away.)
4. Harry Potter and the Dark Mark (well, the Dark Mark is significant throughout. It returns at the QWC and is on the arms of Snape, Karkaroff and all of the Death Eaters in the graveyard.)
5. Harry Potter and Dumbledore's Army (Dumbledore's Army is really more prominent than The Order of the Phoenix as it is the rebellion against the main antagonist, Professor Umbridge and also the group that initially travels to the Ministry.)
6. Harry Potter and the Lightning Struck Tower (someone suggested this before and I think it's the most viable of all the alternative titles. It doesn't give much away about the ending and it sounds really intriguing.)
7. Harry Potter and the Hunt for Horcruxes (Horcruxes are ultimately more important than the Hallows so they deserve a place in the title more than the Hallows do. Plus, it doesn't give anything away because we know that Harry, Ron and Hermione are going to hunt Horcruxes from the end of book six.)

I am fully aware that the original titles are probably better than these ones, except perhaps for the Lightning Struck Tower, so I don't want a critique on the many flaws of these alternatives :D
