Adblock

Adblock is a commonly used extension to block all the unwanted ads and stuff.

But there has been talk of it being not fair, especially to sites/youtubers who are newer and need any sort of payment they can get. I've been using it for years, some sites I turn it off (Rooster Teeth's site for example) so I can support the people behind all those videos. But it is a very useful tool.

Opinions on adblock?

Re: Adblock

I'm all for Adblock. I'm SICK of advertisements being in my face 24/7. It's gotten a lot worse these past few years. I'd be a bit more open to ads if companies weren't so obsessed with being everywhere and by that I mean they even appear in my Facebook, Twitter, tumblr and Instagram feed. Newsflash, annoying companies, if I'm not following you then I don't wanna see your ads on my social media feeds. Cheers.

Re: Adblock

I don't use it purely because the only place that I go that has ads that could annoy me is twitch and I view watching the ads as my support to the streamers and their channels.

I don't really have an opinion on it, I just don't use it.

Re: Adblock

Adblocks actually help the advertisers too.

Users who use adblocks would never be moved by the ads anyway. If anything, they would increase their ire towards the company. Adblocks removes these hardcore ad haters and thus most of the people who view the ads are people who aren't majorly offended by them.

It's a win win for both really.

Re: Adblock

I use uBlock for Safari for two distinct reasons:

1) Blocking ads enhances security and privacy across the web. Malware is commonly being injected into ad spots on websites and exploits can be used to inject script into a badly designed ad.
2) It speeds up the browsing experience considerably. I refuse to subject myself to the nonsensical level of ads some websites use, it is unacceptable.

There are some circumstances where I pay for content to specifically support the content creator. I subscribe to a few twitch channels, have sponsorship on Roosterteeth, and pay for a lot of services like Netflix, Amazon, Crunchyroll, HBO Now, etc.

Who do you watch on twitch Al? I watch Lirik's channel religiously. His night streams are amazing and he gets small companies and games a lot of recognition.

I keep adblock off on roostereeth site, they tend to have less ads on their site. I don't mind a short one before a video (I can just skip those), but ones all over the site? They would be gone.

I actually never considered these reasons.

Re: Adblock

I've watched LIRIK before, but I usually watch summit1g for H1Z1. I watch TrumpSC and reynad27 for Hearthstone. Spartysmallwood for World of Warcraft. I haven't been watching a lot of Twitch these days.

I don't bother turning it off for RoosterTeeth because I'm a sponsor and have purchased stuff in their store before.

Not a fan of summit tbf, he treats his viewers like shit on a lot of occasions. B0aty is probably my favourite H1Z1 streamer when he plays it. Reynad is really good.

Do you play H1Z1? BR is intense and I'm glad they've split it into two games now so they can focus on developing both survival and BR mode.

Ah well, I'm not a sponsor yet so I keep it on :)

I love twitch tbh, I didn't realize they had ads on there.

Firebat is another good Hearthstone streamer, but he isn't on as much.

I've played a few times, never got into it heavily like some of these people.

Re: Adblock

I use adblock for a single reason. Sketchy looking websites. Besides that, I don't use it at all. I follow some youtubers and streamers and I know how much they put into the things they do. I could watch a few ads, they work pretty hard for that.

I always use Adblock, I'm really tired of all that advertising through the Internet, besides some of it is sooo annoying  I don't turn it off, yeah I understand your thought but it's not very comfortable me to always turn it on or off :eyebrow: So sorry for that guys!

Re: Adblock

I absolutely love it. I never shut it off, simply because most ads now have gotten quite obnoxious. All flashy and commanding the focus away from an actual sites content. I didn't mind it on sites, that didn't have many ads to begin with. It just got too extreme on other sites, and even the content of the ads - they were never relevant or interesting to anything I was doing. Like, when searching for a crochet pattern - the ads should have been crafty, not just random junk, about random junk. I didn't actually look for an adblock, until a torrent site was literally throwing porn video ads in my face. My grandpa's 83, and has an mp3 player - for some reason his CDs just will not copy - so I'd download music for him ; and having a chance of boobs and vag thrown into his face, just wasn't a risk I could take. I'm not a prude or anything, but that just called for too much awkward.

So, that's the second thing I get after getting the good browser. Just wish my phone had it! So annoying to be researching on my phone - and having my attention drawn from say... the innovative ways a specific group of dolphins hunt, that no other group does - to the latest Lady Gaga bs =/
