Miscast? Not at all. Oldman was completely believable as Sirius, and his scenes in the Shrieking Shack were the stuff of legends.

As for the "too fatherly" comment at the beginning of the thread...well, he was Harry's godfather, after all.

I thought he was perfect for the role too. He played Sirius exactly how I imagined him to be

I loved him as Sirius. He is a great actor, and Sirius is one of my favorite chacters. Gary Oldman did an amazing job, I feel.

I don't think he was miscast. But I will say that Gary Oldman is very versatile...I've seen him do some really evil stuff...he could've been Voldemort, with that nose-slit mask Ralph Fiennes had to wear. Yeah, Gary could have played a lot of parts, but I thought he was fine as Sirius.

He is the right man to play Sirius Black in HP movies.. :D I belive that every actor is a right man for the job.. Used to prefer Ian McKellen over Michael Gambon but now I think that Michael Gambon is perfect in role of Albus Dumbledore..

I'll say that he's not at all how I pictured Sirius, but he did a good enough job.
I mean, he didn't really have a massive role in the films so I don't really have much of an opinion.

I liked Richard Harris better. But I agree with you on the Sirius note. He is the perfect man for the job.

I wouldn't say he was the perfect man for the job, but he did pretty well as Sirius. I just didn't imagine Sirius to look like him when reading the books... I was thinking more along the lines of Viggo Mortenson! (Especially after seeing Mortenson in Lord of the Rings)

That's because Gary Oldman has had so many different looks in different movies.

Even after seeing him as Sirius, I still was unsure for some reason. He wasn't bad though. I think I'm just too obsessed with Viggo Mortenson for my own good.

The word "Perfection" will describe the Harry Potter movies when it comes to the right actor playing the character. Oldman was a good choice to play Siruis Black because Oldman mainly plays villiain in his previous roles.

He was Sirius in his way of acting, however I was disappointed, I didn't imagine him like this! Not at all!!! Especially because Sirius is my favourite character, you'll understand my disappointment

Oldman is a marvellous actor. So therefore my biast opinion makes me believe that he portrayed Sirius excellently. Such a soft voice but at the same time can be scary too :L

I think Gary Oldman portrayed Sirius really well. He was the exact person I imagined to be Sirius. He's a brilliant actor; and his scenes in the Shrieking Shack; along with David Thewlis (Lupin) were amazing.
