It seems kind of odd that Voldemort wanted the philosopher's stone in the 1st book, because by then he already had 5 horcruxes (He made Nagini into a horcrux somewhere after his 2nd rise to power in GoF I think I read somewhere). It might have been an act of security, but I doubt that he thought it really unnecessary... What do you think?

I think the first book is important, its because Voldemort needs the elixir of life to survive, because he is half of Quirell, plus it is the first book in the series so therefore everything comes after it.

I'm not sure where it said this...but I'm pretty sure it did. Voldemort did not want the stone to come back to life...he didn't need to. but it would have been able to give him a body again.

I found the quote. I can only find my pocket edition of the book, so I can't give you the exact page. It is in the chapter "The man with Two Faces." The paragraph starts out with, "See what I have become."

Further down that paragraph Voldemort says, "Once I have the Elixir of Life, I will be able to create a body of my own."

There was more information in between about how he has been sustaining himself on unicorn blood, yadda yadda. I'm just too lazy to type all of that out.

Thats true why would he need it?I think if he didn't have the horcruxes the night he tried to kill Harry he would have fully died, but since he had the horcruxes he survived...sort of.He was as he said "I was ripped from my body, I was less than spirit, less than the meanest ghost... but still, I was alive. What I was, even I do not know..."So he needs the stone to get a body to bring himself to full power, like the others have said.I also think it was more than the horcruxes keeping him alive because he said this,"You know my goal – to conquer death. And now, I was tested, and it appeared that one or more of my experiments had worked... for I had not been killed, though the curse should have done it."See I think Voldemort had more than just Horcruxes keeping him alive. And it must have been his only shot at the time for a body because he could not posses a wand he had no body!So he would use the stone because all you have to do is drink it or something like that and quirrell could drink unicorn blood so why not the elixir of life and vola! Lord Voldemort RETURNS...but he was thwarted by Harry.

actually, in response to a previous post, voldemort made his first horcrux when he was at hogwarts or soon after, but it was definetly before he killed harry's parents.
