I think he is the worst director to date. I honestly am not sure if I will go see HBP because his directing is sooooo bad.
He doesn't tell a cohesive story, it doesn't flow, it is choppy. Cinematically it is not very good either.

I think it could have been much worse, but it also could have been a lot better which gives us an OK film. But I do agree with you on that the story was kind of choppy, missing parts that would have made it make more sense to those who haven't read the books.

i think the effect and direction was good.........but it would help if he made movie as if he actually read the book not just some sparknotes. there was way too much stuff left out.

Worst by far....

The direction was poor to say the least...has this guy ever heard of story telling. dont get me wrong...there were elements of this move that rocked.

costume....spot on
set design.....cracking
casting.....perfect esspecialy Dolores Umbridge
specialy effects....not the best..but still good

The cast can be the best actors in the world, but as we all know its the direction that makes a movie and he just couldnt cut it. ok ok ok...you need to chop a book down to get it in a movie and its a hard job. but come on.. i didnt care when sirius died as my emotional investment in this movie was non existent....dumbledore is further from charater than ever (someone resurrect richard harris). someone needs to give hermione some chill pills. and as for voldemort, isnt he supposed to be the dark lord....the one we all fear? i thought ginny was more insidious. hes supposed to be the sum of our fears..."he who must be named" was overweak.

Also what was going on with the score?....it sounded like it was grafted from another moive. all i can say is there better be a directers cut where this movie makes sense...because if i were mr yates, ide be sweating right now.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE !!!!!!

The prisoner of askaban was cracking.....not my favorite book...but certainly my favorite movie so far.

i thought he was ok, i felt the emotion and stuff he tried to convey from the book, but of COURSE no movie could replace the book, possibly no movies oculd succesfully exactly reproduce the books (that would take a fortune). i miss the sense of MAGIC (isn't that what harry potter's about?!?) that i loved from the first movie. but he couldve been LOADS worse

I think he made a huge mistake by making the film shorter than all the others. Rolling Eyes

YA it was the LONGEST book and amazingly (sarcasm) he made it the shortest...rip off! but i still love the movie and would watch it over and over jus because it IS a harry potter move.

blame the screen writer about how much was left out, not Yates. I thought he did an excellent job. now the GoF guy...he sucked. PoA was ok, Columbus was good. but he was oh so sugary sweet. Yates didn't have that. I think he's the best. a lot was left out in the movie but I truly enjoyed it. I was sucked in enough to stop thinking omg they left that out...omg why did they change that. I'm glad he's coming back for HBP

I hate to say this, but Newell (GoF) was the worst out of teh 4. And I was very upset about that. I had seen Mona Lisa Smile and while I liked the movie, I felt teh diercting was.... lacking some spark, or whatever. And I saw that same dullness in GoF. So although I know Newell isn't all to blame for GoF's dryness, I also know that he isn't all faultless.

I don't like Yates. The best director of Harry Potter films was Chris Columbs wich directeted Philosopher's Stone and Chamber of Secrets. Prisoner Of Azkaban-Goblet Of Fire and Order Of The Pheonix would have been such a kickass movies if they were directed by Chris.

I like his directing style... I think visually OotP was great, I loved how the Gryffindor Common room rocked. And he definitely ships R/Hr (as opposed to Newell, but I won't get into that now) BUT... yeah, if it was longer the fans (us) would probably not be complaining so much. I feel like he sacrificed too much.

i agree i loved the movie visually it had really good effects and visual representations of stuff in my head (ex: thestrals and the arch room) but still could hav had better CONTENT in the movie.

I like that he puts his own personal touch and everything.

But showing a Luna/Harry kinda thing..eh. Didn't really appeal to me.
And there were in fact a LOT of boring scenes (to me)

I wish the director of the fourth film directed the 5th. I loved the movie but its not the best. It was a bit too dark and evil and it there were hardly any happy parts. Confused
