how could JKR leave us with so little at the end of DH? the epilogue seemed like an afterthought. there were no details. i just knew Ginny and Harry would get married, but what about the romantic parts? same for Hermione and Ron.
*edit* also what are they doing for a living? Harry an auror?

it's also quite irritating that i didnt read about some of my favorite characters:

Neville... ok he was a professor at Hogwarts, but what else has he done?
Luna... did she take over the Quibbler? did she and Neville get married?
George... did he continue with the Weasley Wizard Weezes? how did he handle Fred's death?
Kreacher... did Harry make him a free elf? is Kreacher still Harry's house elf?
Professor McGonagall... did she become headmaster? i am assuming so
Arthur & Molly and the other Weasleys... what have they been doing since Vold's death? how did they handle Fred's death? is Percy close to the family?
Greyback... was he killed? went into hiding?
Malfoys... we saw Draco at the station, but what happened to him after Vold's death? his parents?
Hagrid and Grawp... ok Hagrid was still at Hogwarts, but what about his 1/2 brother? what new "pets" has Hagrid been trying to tame?
Dursleys... did Harry ever speak to them again?

so many things i wanted to know about the characters... yet they went unanswered. i REALLY hope that JKR writes an extended epilogue after Vold's death.

it doesnt feel right not knowing about so many of our beloved characters

anyone else feel that JKR isnt finished?

I agree

For the sake of her fans - we NEED more. We've followed the books for 10 years - we need more closure, but also more story.

JKR - we're addicted, give us more!

A book about the Marauders would be great - now all the opinions have changed JKR could do a whole snape series.

The interim - Harry and co's growing up, adulescance etc. I know she said she wouldn't, but we'd all love it.

And the obvious one is the offspring. Just those few pages of the epilogue gives 7/8 school-age characters to play with, not to mention the adults. The storyline of the Hallows is begging to be continued, and Hogwarts is too amazing an invention to be abandoned after a mere 1400 pages!!

I disagree. I don't think any epilogue should have been done. We don't need to know what happens afterward. From a literary standpoint it is bad writing. It simply does not have a part in the general storyline. And it is anti-climatic to talk about a peaceful life afterward.

She is done. Just get over it.

I do think that she should have given Harry and Ginny a scene after the battle though. That would have been sufficinet.

Seer, you're just cynical Wink

These are, at the end of the day, kids books - I think it has to have an ending other then Voldemorte hitting the floor. I wish the epilogue had reached a full chapter.

I think that if she gave everything closure, what would be there be left? Nothing! Sure, we'd have 2 more movies, but then there would be nothing. Yes, the book deserved some more closure, mainly in areas such as the veil and some of the lesser characters, but there is enough open ended areas to discuss.

Indeed I agree!
I would like to know ALL of those things and more.
The Epp in my opinion was prabably the worse part of the book.
I luved it cuz Harry and Ginny get together, but it was lame beucase nothing else was explained for any of the other charactorse

Spoiler:

I don't necessary think the epilogue should've been longer, but instead swapped for a chapter describing the events of the aftermath of the death. Not nineteen years later, but the following months. The funerals, the mourning but also the relationships, the careers, the joy that it was all finally over. If we got a chapter like this at the end of the book, the epilogue would have been totally unnecessary - we could have easily come to the conclusion that they'd all get married and have kids happily ever after. I mainly wanted to see the aftermath of Fred's death.. and to see how Harry felt about being godfather to Teddy now that Lupin and Tonks had died.

Well we might get an 8th book sometime.
He never acctualy said she WOULD NOT get one.
Heres an exact quote taken from a JK interview:

Quote:
"So have we really seen the last of the staff and students of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry?"

“Because the world is so big, there would be room to do other stuff,” Rowling says carefully. “I am not planning to do that, but I’m not going to say I’m never going to do it.”

So if we hope, keep our fingers crossed maybe she'll write anotheron ein a few years.

Yikes people! Walk into the section of your local Borders or Barnes & Noble labeled "fantasy" and expand your tastes, give yourself a foundation for critique and comparison, develop your imagination...

...and of course ALSO politely ask JKR to write more Potter. Wink

I agree with touring3d that I would have liked all that (s)he stated addressed, and also with kateasl that a chapter showing the aftermath of the Battle of Hogwarts and the end of Voldemort's regime would have been great (I almost want to say it feels necessary, but since JKR didn't include it, I guess it's not).

I'm confident that "The Aftermath" combined with a slightly expanded epiogue could bring a more overall sense of closure to a lot of the characters we have come to know and love over the years.

I don't think she should have just listed what everyone was doing in the epilogue. We don't need to know everything. I'm sad that the series is over, but she had to end it sometime.

Spoiler:

I was glad the epilogue was there; it reassured me that Harry went on to have a life. But it really did leave too many details untold. I would have loved a description of Harry's and Ginny's engagement and wedding. What did Harry wind up doing for a living? And did Hermione leave her parents in Australia, not knowing they had a daughter? Or did she bring them back for her weding to Ron.

Please, please, write another book that gives us all these details. Pretty please??

I was very happy to see the child named Albus Severus. As unfortunate of name as that is, I'm glad Harry and everyone else recognized how devoted and how brave Snape was.

Although, overall I would have preferred an aftermath chapter over an epilogue.
