when he was hiding the Diadrem in the Room of Requirement that if all those other things were there, obviously someone else had been there? Or were all those things gathered in there after Voldemort had put the Diadrem there? He was a bit overly stupid.
I was a bit confused by that, too. Unless all those things were added in after he put the diadem in there? _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan
Maybe because voldemort was looking for a place to hide something, the room appeared empty for him
But Harry however was looking for a place where people have hidden prized items...
Remember how Neville said that being specific was the key to getting the room you want?
Well in HBP he's looking for a place to hide his Potions book and finds the room with all the things in it, he even sees the diadem without knowing. _________________
Riddle also could have thought that since there is so much stuff in there, it would be hard to find in the first place. He thought no one would find out about the Horcruxes also and the room of requirement seemed to be pretty hard to find, until people really started using it in OOTP. So to him, it looked like a perfect hiding place. Although I thought he might have hidden it in the Chamber of Secrets, being the heir of Slytherin and all. _________________ "Jinx by twilight, undone by midnight."
Yeah, I think this was one of the strangest things about the book. It certainly seems as though none of that stuff in the Room of Requirement would have been there when Voldemort put the diadem there because Voldemort was so intent on the fact that he was the only one EVER to find that room. If there was even one other thing in that room, he would have realised other people knew about it to. But, from the amount of stuff that is in that room, it seems next to impossible that it has all accumulated since the diadem was put there, which happened less than fifty years ago.
The only thing I can think to explain it is something to do with the specifics of what Harry and Voldemort asked for when using that room. Although Harry did simply ask for a place to hide his book in the Half Blood Prince, and I can't imagine Voldemort's request would have been much different.
Another thing to do with this. Did Draco never tell Voldemort his plan of how he was going to get the Death Eaters into Hogwarts in the Half Blood Prince? Because if he did, Voldemort must have known about the room then, surely? I also feel kind of bad for Draco, cause he spent the entire year in the Half Blood Prince trying to fix the vanishing cabinet when all he needed to do was ask for a tunnel as per what Neville did.
And, lastly, I find it odd that the tunnel that appeared when Neville asked for access to food went to the Hogs Head, and not the Three Broomsticks. It was obviously a plot device, but I do think she could have thought of another reason for the tunnel to go to the Hogs Head aside from just food.
the hogshead was probably just closer, or...he was thinking in the back of his mind 'oh my...we need help" or something like that...so it gave him help. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer
Oh! I didn't even think about how Draco had used the room. I've always felt badly for Draco. I always knew there was good inside him, but I wished J.K.R. made it more evident in the book.
I think it would have been a great trip down memory lane for the diadem to be in the Chamber of Secrets. Coulda been stashed inside Salazar's statue's mouth or something. Maybe at the bottom of that pool. That just makes more sense than the RoR, which has junk stashed in there from "over the centuries" as I think it said in OotP. Also, the diadem was just kinda lying in a pile of junk, Harry didn't have to look to far for objects to decorate the wizard's bust. _________________

The diadem being in the Room of Requirement and the books explanation that V thought no one else knew about that room I think is one of the biggest plot holes in the book. The room is full of stuff people have hidden. Even Trelawney could find it when she was drunk and needed to hide her bottles. The first Horcrux was so incredibly protected it just doesn't make sense that it was just sitting there in the RR on top of a wig.
Another problem with where it was placed is that it was on top of a wig on top of a bust. A comical image. Would V have put a part of his soul in such an obviously funny place? It wasn't a joke to V. We are told specifically in HBP that V would only put his Horcruxes in something that was worthy of him. I would imagine that he would only want to put them in locations that were equally as worthy.
While I liked the idea of the RR as a hiding place, the COS being too obvious, I think V could have thought up a room that was much more suiting his arrogant style. _________________ Perfect Harmony

Harry put it there as a landmark so he could find his/HBP's potions book. He put the diadem and wig on the bust and set it on the cupboard so it would stick out and he could find his book again. _________________

The only reason the diadem was on top of the wig on top of the bust is because Harry put it there. In the Half Blood Prince when Harry is hiding his potions book, he sets up the wig and the diadem on top of that bust so that he can use it as sort of a land mark for finding his book when he needed it next. I do think there was a serious plot hole here, because the fact that it was just sitting amongst junk in the Room of Requirement just doesn't make sense.. but it wasn't originally sitting on top of the wig.
Did it occur to y'all that maybe Voldemort hid the diadem in the RoR before his interview, thinking he could go back and grab it after he got the job and hide it in a better place? Maybe he just thought, "I need a place to hide this for a short time," or something.
I mean, it's still lame, but... that would kind of work.
I posted this in the other copy of this thread, maybe he thought the rest of the junk was there just for the purpose of obscuring the diadem, making it harder to find if someone searched. I mean...if it was just this tiara sitting in an empty room...that would be really consipicuous. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer
They're both quite plausible. I thought maybe, because Harry never actually touched the diadem in this book that perhaps it was cursed as the ring was, but I just realised that Harry touched the diadem in HBP so I guess that's impossible. I think JK Rowling really does need to answer this question though, I hope she has an answer for it because it's a huge flaw if she doesn't.
how awkward would it have been to "hide" a tiara containing part of your soul on the floor in an empty room?
-maybe arrogant voldemort did not need to be told that he was the only one to find and hide something in that room, and therefore, the room did not tell him (because he wasn't.)
-maybe that doesn't make sense...
-maybe that giant mass of stuff originally accumulated BECAUSE voldy needed a roomful of hidden things to go with his diadem?
-or maybe that's why he didn't realize other people had found the room, because he thought all the junk was provided by the room and not by other hogwarts students?
