i dont believe she is really a fraud.

she had two real predictions which we are sure of. she may have had others as well, but we do not know.

she predicted that lavender's rabbit will die, that neville will break his cup, and that hermione will leave their number forever.

she keeps sayng that hp will die. well, i have learned that if jk keeps repeating and reinforcing soemthing, she means it.

she predicted the lightning struck tower thing.

She's sorely underestimated, in my opinion. Imagine how you would feel if your ancestor was amazing, but barely a soul gives you their trust.

I don't think she's so much a fraud as she is misunderstood. Predictions can be interpreted in so many ways... I mean whe I look into my tea cup I only see another dirty dish for me to clean.

We know that to some extent she's real... But even when she made the prediction in PoA the trio still thinks she is a fraud. Nothing she can do, say, or predict will make anyone accept her as real. So she probably feels she needs to elaborate on her gifts. It makes me wonder if she ever had a prediction before the Voldemort-Harry one. Afterall, she seemed to think se possessed the site. She might not even know herself the extent of her gifts.

you know her name should be cassandra instead of sibyll. cassandra was this trojan princess who could predict the future but nobody believed her. that is exactly what trelawney is. she is grossly underestimated. but then again maybe it is her personality that makes everyone think she is a fraud. but i think otherwise. she will probably have an important role in the seventh book.

Here is my deal. When Umbridge sacked her Dumbledore wanted her to remain at Hogwarts. Thisaway the death eaters wouldn't be able to force the prophecy out of her. But um with Hogwarts possibly not being in the next book where will Trelenaw go? Just thought of something though does she even have any memory of the foretelling the prophecy? In the 7th book she had a vision and didn't realize it, so will she even be useful if captured by the enemy?

No she does not remember making the prophecy, but Voldemort coaxed information out of Bertha Jorkins when strong memory charms were blocking the way, he could probably get the prophecy out of Trelawney, especially as she'd not be trying to block it. My idea is that it is lurking there in or beneath her subconscience and that is why Dumbledore kept her at Hogwarts.

She's like those people who claim they can speak with ghosts. They amaze some people who want to believe and everyone else can see through her. Yes, she had two real predictions but everything else that comes out of her mouth is vague and lacks any kind of detail.

Neville breaks the cup because she made him nervous by telling him he would do it. If she was any kind of smart, why wouldn't she just tell him to start with the color she didn't like as much in the first place?

As for Lavender's rabbit, well Hermione debunked that for us.
