I like Harry/Luna.

1. She's not the celebrity/fame seeking type, ideal for Harry... She's the real deal, not a fake in any way. Very Happy Very Happy

2. Luna defended Harry about the return of Voldemort, when few people believed him.

3. Luna answered the call of the Order. She was about their best fighter, she was even helping Neville to his feet at the end.

4. Luna can hear/see spirits behind the veil, and help Harry come to terms with his loss. She's lost a parent too.

5. Ron *approves* of her - always useful that your friends like who you're dating....

6. Luna makes Harry laugh with her outrageous theories.

It's a *balanced* friendship, that could become a lot more.

At the first read through I thought the same.

1. (Harry) was used to Luna repeating her father's bizarre views as though they were fact, did not reply;

*** so this is Harry thinking Luna's father has bizarre views, not Luna***

Subtle, but a distinct difference.

2. Harry seized Luna's hand and dragged her along with him.
3. He pulled Luna after him into the crowd;

*** so he's holding onto Luna - shows he values her***

4. Harry inhaled his mead up his nose as he started to laugh. Really, it had been worth bringing Luna just for this.
Emerging from his goblet, coughing, sopping wet but still grinning, he saw something calculated to raise his spirits even higher;

Is Harry laughing at Luna in a horrible way? Or just amused in a kind way?

I agree with you guys. I like Luna for Harry more than Ginny. I know as readers we should like Ginny but I really don't. I think she would make a better couple with Neville... wouldn't it be nice for Nev to get the hottest girl in school. As for Harry... I like Luna so much for him...she has more in common with him that Ginny... Ginny is a bit shalow. To me she has been talking about Harry before she even knew him... she fell for his celebrity and not him... then she goes to the Yule Ball with Neville... She dates someother guy ( Marcus I think)in book five, then dates Dean... all that just to get Harry to notice her... That's not nice to use people like that. She dated Harry's whole dorm except Seamus and Ron. I'm not sure how I feel about that. JK said that Lily was like Ginny, very popular. I hope Lily didn't go about dating people to get James' attention or whatever. ( I really hope that she didn't string Severus on to get James angry)

As readers, we are in no way obligated to like Harry's object of affections. I positively HATE Cho Chang, and did from the start, so there's nothing wrong with not liking Ginny.
but I personally love Ginny!

well, they did go to Yule ball together Wink but, then again, it was just because Ginny was desperate.
But, then again....Neville DID seem to have an amazing time (dancing in the dorm?). I wonder what they were doing... Wink

talking about someone is not the same as falling for them. She then met him, and realized that she liked him as a person. It's not like she didn't have a friendship with him before they started going out.

I repeat: She was desperate! It says right there in GoF when Ron offers Harry as her date.

Yeah, Michael Corner, then Dean. She probably had at least some feelings for them, or else she wouldn't have dated them for so long.

Ok, I can't ignore the fact that she did date Dean, from Harry's dorm, but and we must take into account that there were only 5 people in there. She dated 2, If you count Neville (Yule ball? Doesn't count as dating, in my eyes.)
And I don't think that Lily went around dating people to get James's attention, because it was more the other way around. James was showing off for Lily all of the time.

ha ha I loved your post. I don't think that Lily went dating people all willy nilly either. But I still can't look past Ginny dating so many people. I wonder how ron feels knowing that his sister has dated three people in his dorm and one other person outside. ( I'm counting Harry).

I agree with you about CHO... she was sooooooo annoying. I think she had a thing for famous people. Or she never really liked Harry and really just missed Cedric all along. I really don't know what was her problem.

Ummh. I have a *sirius* (bad pun) problem with Ginny's Crush. Very Happy

1. She was *mad* for Harry before she started at Hogwarts, so yes, IMHO its valid to say that she fell for Harry's celebrity status. She didn't know Harry at the time.

2. To have a crush is normal, but it unnerves me a bit, because she hasn't grown out of her crush. Crushes IMHO don't last 6 years.

3. Ginny is becoming powerful, attractive etc in her own right, she doesn't need to *tag* along with anyone. JKR considers her to be like Lily Evans, a bit of a catch. Doesn't Ginny realise her own worth? The boys do!! Very Happy

4. Hermione gave Ginny the best advice - get out there and date others.

5. But still, the crush is there. Harry doesn't seem entralled by Ginny for most of the books. He doesn't talk to her that much, about things that matter, ie the possession, Sirius's Death. It's pretty one sided from what I can *gather*. She's not really on Harry's radar.

Not happy about H/G - sorry guys. Just can't get behind it. Shocked

Yes, but that is not the same "crush" she had for Harry in HBP. AFter she got to know him, it was no longer a "celebrity crush", it was a crush for who he is.

I'm sure it wasn't a constant six years, probably on and off.

What do you mean when you say:
"It's pretty one sided from what I can *gather*."

Could you please explain that further? Very Happy
(so I can shoot it down..hehehe Razz) Very Happy

I've always thought there should be more to the Luna/Harry dynamic because Harry seems comfortable around her and shes werid. I like the idea of them together but I don't see it happening. Ginny is Harry's now and it'll most likely stay that way. I agree though that Ginny has displayed certain garden-toolish qualities in the past, so maybe she isn't the best person for Harry. But I like them togethe too cause shes liked him ever since and I think its sweet they are together, I loved it when she said that she had never really given up. It was soo sweet! But thas jus me. Hated Cho though, never liked her from the start.
Anybody here Harry/Hermione advocates? Or am I the only one in the world?

This ship has sunk!! I agree w/ whoever said that Harry thinks that she's insane. Maybe she is in a good way, but she and Harry do not belong together! End of discussion!

Maybe if ginny dies and at the end of the Book they'll get together. Ron will have a heart attack if they do get together
