Ive always found hedwig to be an interesting character. Harry is often comlimented on having such a smart bird, very similarly to how often harry is told he has his mothers eyes. maybe hedwig is more than a meer letter carrier. Hagrid was the one who bought hedwig. he knows a lot about creatures, and is often known to buy them "under the table". maybe hedwig was bought that way. when hagrid told harry to write him in sorcerers stone on page 87, he says "send me a letter with yer owl, she'll know where to find me. " he seems very confident that she will be able to find him. also, hedwig was able to find sirius when the entire ministry couldnt. if any owl has the ability to do this, then the ministry could have just followed one to sirius. theres other examples but i didnt feel like writing them here

idk, maybe its a good question, or maybe i am just begging to make the next great prediction. ive always been interested in hedwig. your thoughts

Hedwig is a very smart bird. Probably she'll have some important role in the 7th book, but I don't know. I don't think that Hedwig is an animaigus, though.

hmm... maybe something will happen to Harry in the 7th book and he is like close to death and hedwig finds him and gets him health and saves his life!!!

nah... hagrid would only buy an animal illegally because it is illegal to buy them legally.

its legal to have birds. no point for him to buy them under the table.
its illegal to have dragons. there's a reason for him to buy thenm under the table.

jkr explained that wizards can make themselves unplottable. if neither sirius nor voldemort made themselves unplottable, they would have been found by the aurors long ago.

In OotP, Harry gives Hedwig three letters and tells her to give the to Sirius, Ron, and Hermione. "Keep pecking them till they've written decent-length answers if you've got to. Understand?"

Could any normal, untrained owl-

a) Find Sirius Black when the entire Ministry of Magic is looking for him?
b) Understand an order to "keep pecking them"?
c) Judge whether a letter is "decent-length"?
d) None of the above

i don't think hedwig is an animagus. she's just a normal owl. all owls seem to be able to find a specified person.

Taht is true... But you will also remember that on any other letter, it usually says said person's name and the EXACT location on where the person is at that given time. All harry has had ro write at most times was "To Serious" or something along those lines.

I agree..

And hagrid dose have an uncanny ability to find really good animals.. Pick of the litter.

you forget that owls are magical creatures.all the other owls as well found sirius. remember he said not to use hedwig coz he atracts too much attention? so harry used a school owl. and the school owl found his way.

if they can look for a wizard in hiding, i presume they also:

1. are able to tell when a letter is of decent length
2. are able to follow instructions - remember when harry first met hagrid, then it was morning, and the owl delivered the daily prophet, and he was waiting for the payment of 5 knuts?

This is the wizard world. Of course the owls have abilities that owls in our world don’t. How many owls in your area are able to fly letters to your godfather? NONE. So obviously Hedwig would be able to distinguish the length of a letter and “peck them until” they do write.

Hedwig I do believe though will be a big part in the 7th book.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Just wondered if anyone noticed that the Owl Hedwig and other animals in Jks World has a siginificance.
WHat i do know is this, Harry and all other wizards writed O,W,L,S.
Ordinary Wizarding levels.
Owl that can read letters,
I thinks there is more to that Owl than meets the eyse. What i like ab out jak is that she makes sure that there is moments like this that we can revel in the fact that those animals are More than normal.
THinks duality and think animals folks in her worlds. Then you will know that she has more purpose for all chars and animals in her world.

I think Hedwig is very intelligent, and very pretty!!
Sometimes i keep thinking that Hedwig could be an animagus, but he/she could be on DD's order to keep Harry safe over the summer, and not to reveal herself untill it is time. Just like with Mrs. Figg, the squib, remember over the summer in OOTF? She was to keep an eye on Harry, DD's orders.
Plus, she always knows where to go, and usually gets there five minutes faster than Harry does. Hagrid always did pick the best animals that knows how to control its self.

i think owls are very intelligent that way. its just that muggles dont appreciate their intellect. i dont think there is such a thing as "magical owls" and "muggle owls"

Somebody above mensioned something about JKR making the test called the OWLs... Maybe that is a type of foreshadowing... Maybe she dose have something planned for hedwig.
