I got the Fantastic Beast and Ahere To Find Them book for information to be used for my Harry Potter D20 RPG. The book is a great source of information but a few creatures were not mentioned in it, one of which was the Vampire. While all franchises have vampires suck blood and avoid sunlight, the similarites stop there and they vary from each. Are vampires discussed anywhere else?
Also missing from the book where Veela which I was interested in reading about (mythologically they seen to be a Germanic version of the Nymph)

There seems to be a difference in the the Wizarding World between "beast" "creature" and "being", etc. I'm guessing that maybe veela and vampires didn't fit into the ministry's definition of "beasts."

2. giants
3. goblins
4. werewolves
5. centaurs
6. vampires
7. hags
8. merfolk

I've always wondered about vampyres (That is my spelling of it, yes) in Harry Potter. There aren't many mentions.

Yes, there is, in HBP during Slughorn's Christmas party. And Luna is pretty sure that Scrimgeour is one, too.
