Oh absolutely!
When Ron received a watch on his 17th birthday, I was automatically reminded of the watch DD looks at in the very beginning of SS/PS. It is also mentioned that Harry has a watch in GoF, but it gets damaged by the water during the 2nd task. Later on in the book it's randomly mentioned again. I thought, "How strange for JKR to mention such a random thing. I wonder if there is a reason for it." When Mrs. Weasley explained the tradition to Harry, it all fell into place.
The scene where Mrs. Weasley gives Harry the watch was very touching, and the fact that he still wore it, 19 years later, made it that much sweeter. _________________

| I always loved how Mrs. Weasley swooped in, no questions asked, and tried to fill the motherly role for Harry....the watch, the sweaters, flustering over getting his school books, etc. |

One of the reasons Harry and Ron met were because his parents were dead... remember, the twins helped Harry get his trunk onto the train... had Harry's parents not died, then he wouldn't have needed the help. Ron felt comfortable approaching him, because Harry had seemed nice when he had asked for insructions on how to enter Platform 9 and 3/4. But had Harry's parents not died, he wouldn't have needed to approach Ron and his mother. It's weird how things work out. I like to think they would have been friends... but a flip of the coin and everything could have been different. _________________

Harry's interactions with Ron helped cement his dislike for Malfoy and Slytherin. Who's to say where the sorting hat would have put Harry if he wasn't biased going in...based on what he learned from Ron. |

mm. good points.
but i always thought that because both sets of parents were in the order. they might have met when they were little, and not even know about it. And maybe when they were growing up they would of spent time together.
but yeah, it could of turned out anyway. _________________

I wondered that, too.. both sets of parents were in the order... but we don't know if they were friends. When Moody showed harry that picture of teh Order, the Weasleys were not in that particular picture. DD had people everywhere in the Order, it doesn't mean they would have been friends. The Weasleys and the Longbottoms weren't. _________________

Thats true but i think that we all would hope that they still would have been friends with the death of harry's parents or not. i think they still would have been friends anyway.
Okay, what if Harry's parents were still alive and Neville would have been the one whose parents were killed, Would Ron be friends with Neville and treat Harry the way that they treat Neville?
Its just a thought! |

It's an interesting thought! Harry isn't anything like how Neville was... Neville was portrayed as sort of a dork with his toad and bad memory. But ya never know, with Harry's parents around, anything could have been different. _________________

I thought it was sweet how he still wore it but I didn't like how Mrs. Weasley gave Harry her brother's watch instead of giving it to her own son. I mean we all know that she wants Harry to feel loved and stuff but Ron was actually family, he should have gotten the watch that used to be his uncles instead of getting a new one. _________________ Bery Kayla Shay Ash

^ yeah definatly. i thought that at the time as well. im so happy that mrs. weasley gave harry a watch, like i said before.
but ron should of got his uncles watch instead of harry. they could of given harry another one.
i was also thinking. that maybe they bought ron a brand new watch, becasue he always gets handmedowns. and by getting him a new watch its like saying "this will always be yours".. or something like that. _________________

Theres an emotional difference between getting handme downs from a brother and getting a watch from your decease uncle. I mean he knows that its gotta be extremely important to Molly and she gives it to Harry instead of her own son. I think that it probably benefited in Ron's fear that his mother loved Harry more then him. _________________ Bery Kayla Shay Ash

I don't think Ron's parents meant to make Ron feel bad about giving Ron a new watch instead of his uncle's. If anything they probably thought they were benefitting him, since he was always complaining about hand-me-downs. In HBP Ron seemed really enthusiastic about his new watch. I don't think that Harry getting used watch bothered him so much.
I certainly don't think Molly meant it has a bad thing to give Harry a used watch. His birthday was probably approaching, they didn't have the money for a new one, and they figured it was the best they could do at the moment. They even apologized for it not being new, so they obviously didn't intend to give Harry something "better" than Ron. On the contrary, they thought the opposite. _________________

I agree! The watch seemed like a such a trivial thing, but it came back around and ended up being a wonderful and sentimental gift. I also like that Harry and Ginny ended up together! I think they were ment for each other even when Ginny was nervous around Harry. _________________ Ginevra Potter |

The Weasleys weren't in the order during the first war (hence the reason they weren't in the picture). _________________ "The best of us must sometimes eat our words." -- Albus Dumbledore |

I didn't like the Epilogue at all. But I mean, sure, there were a couple parts that were nice, but the thing as a whole, "What the crap?" _________________

I completely agree with the last post! I thought the epilogue was appaling, especially contrasted against the ultimate showdown.
It made me cringe. I swear JK handed a pen to her daughter and said, "there dear, you can write the end." It was ultimate cheese, I mean Albus Severus? You what? How come none of Ginny's family members got a mention with the names.
I'm sorry, but it bugs me. I wish JK would rewrite it. I don't even read it now. I just finish the chap before and leave it at that. Ick.

Well, J.K. was on a severe deadline and has/had millions of fans waiting quite impatiently for the last book to come out; no wonder the Epilogue didn't meet certain standards. It was rushed and I think given the time, it would've been something worth reading; the way it is though, I agree with the above post, it was too cheesy for even macaroni.
And I also agree, Albus Severus? Come on! _________________
