why does slughorn wants to pick his favourite student to join his slug club?
example harries mom is great in making potions is that why slughorn invited him in the slug club?

So he can get stuff from it. He invites people with talent or good connections, then keeps in touch with them so he can get items or information from them.
He invited Harry because he's the chosen one of course! He survived the killing curse.

He invited Harry to the Slug Club because he's The Chosen One. The Boy Who Lived... etc.
Slughorn invited Harry's mother because she was a talented witch. SLughorn decided that Lily could someday go on to be someone important and he didnt' want to miss out on the oppurtunity to make friends with her or become a teacher she would remember. He would hope that their bonding would someday achieve him something he wants.
Slughorn was a Slytherin. They aren't all evil, as was proved to us with SLughorn, He wasn't evil, but he did possess a trait that Salazar Slytherin himself valued, ambition.
Slughorn was ambitious and liked that he could become friendly with people who could get him things... he would choose students he thought would benefit him somehow, even if it's just to say he knows someone famous.

Yeah, Slughorn invited Harry because he is the Choosen One, because his potions were turned well, and because his mother was the witch Slughorn once knew.
