Has anyone seen a movie made in 1986 called "Troll" ?
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092115/
So the first Harry Potter book came out in 1997

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (26 June 1997)
If you watch the movie the dad's name and the son's name is Harry Potter and some of the characters resemble Harry Potter characters.
J.K Rowling says the idea "Fell into her head"

Maybe so or maybe he was made of from many ideas of other movies from the 70's and 80's - either way I like Harry Potter and I am glad she wrote the books.
I am not saying she is doing Plagiarism:

I do think however that we all can inspire one another to bring about positive things so maybe this is the case :0) |

I think somebody asked her about this once, and she said she'd never seen the movie.
my sister once checked out an old book of plays (random I know) and one had a character in it called Harry Potter. but her point was to come up with a common sounding name. so its bound to have been used before. _________________

She grew up with a family called the Potters and, like Arabella said, she wanted a common sounding name, so it's bound to pop up once in awhile.
I really think it's a coincidence and people need to stop reading into it. _________________

As far as "Troll" goes... there do seem to be a lot of similarities there though.
Oh well... to the victor go the spoils. Who really knows anything about "Troll" nowadays anyway! _________________

i read an article about how they were doing a remake of this movie which should come out soon and they were talking about how there's a character called harry potter.
but it was purely coincidence. and as uncle vernon points out in chapter one of PS potter isn't exactly an uncommon name, and neither is harry. so the name harry potter is bound to have come up before in other books/movies. _________________
