I have putted this topic in Gryffindor common room, but I also want of you others to see it.

Maybe Rowling wanted to compare the two of them.Because Hitler wanted to keep the pure German blood, but he was from Austria, and he parents were Austraian. So is Voldemort. He was a "mix" of a witch and a normal human. He also wanted to kill all of the people who were "mixed".What do you say?
Here's one from the 7th book:
""Many of our oldest family trees become a little diseased over time"he said as Bellatrix gazed at him, breathless and imploring,"You must prune yours, must you not,to keep it healthy?Cut away those parts that threaten the health of the rest."
"Yes,my Lord,"whispered Bellatrix, and her eyes swam with tears of gratitude again."At the first chance!"
"You shall have it,"said Voldemort."And in your family,so in the world...we shall cut away the canker that infects us until only those of true blood remain..."

well yeah i suppose. even though grindelwald existed during the time of hitler and was german... i guess in terms of ideology both voldemort and hitler are alike... purification of the superior race. exterminate the jews/ muggles and mudbloods.

ive been wondering though, do you think grindelwald put adolf hitler in the imperious curse to take care of the muggle world while grindelwald took care of the wizarding world "for the better good"?

I remember GinnyX saying something like that. I could Imagine Hitler and Grinwald working together.

Cause Dubya wasn't president until 2001, after Voldemort's death.

nor do i... wait... voldemort was active in the 70's... because harry was born 1980... so prior to harry, voldemort was happily killing off people... so... any one whom he could have been working with?

well, we had a dictator president at that time... but britain is way too far from us.

I disagre wiith their characters.

Voldemort is not a coward. He's the kind of villain who goes and does the dirty work. If you want something right, you have to do it yourself. He reminds me a lot Magneto from X-Men.

Adolf Hitler on the other hand had his soldiers do the dirty work for him. He even commited suicide when the Red Army was closing in on him. He was a coward. If Stalin ever catured him, he would have been exhibited in the Moscow Zoo.

Now if you meant to say their ideologies are similar, then yes. Voldy is a damn racist.

hmm... i would disagree with that.

adolf hitler was a fascist, but he was not too arrogant to believe that he was most powerful above the rest.

voldemort is arrogant, that is why he can afford to do those things. its not coz he is brave. he is arrogant. he may have the right to be arrogant being a skilled man, unlike adolf hitler, where most soldiers were better skilled at killing people than he was. but the fact remains that he did these things, not out of bravery, but out of irritation that his servants were not competent enough, and that he did not want to trust them.

if you recall, he commissioned a poor frightened teenage boy to kill dumbledore. and who finished the job? severus snape. why didnt he kill dumbledore himself? its because he knows he is no match for dumbledore. and in the chapter "the flaw in the plan", when he realized that his plan might have gone all wrong, he commanded narcissa to check whether potter was alive or not. that is not bravery.

[quote="Zafersan"]Adolf Hitler on the other hand had his soldiers do the dirty work for him.quote]

you could argue that voldemort got his death eaters to do all the dirty work for him.

i mean yes he probably did more for himself that adolf hitler would have done, but hitler was the leader of a country, so technically everything he did was withing the law, because he basically made the law. voldemort on the other hand was a criminal, so he probably had to do somethings himself to make sure nothing went wrong, because if it did he could get caught.

Nazi Germany holds many similarities to the Wizarding World in book 7 - Collusion and fear of standing up to the powerful minority of bigots and haters within their ranks, confusion, oppressive hate laws, widespread propaganda and encouragement to weed out "collabarators" to the nation/Blood - Obviously the primary reason for this is that JKR herself admits that WW2 had a strong influence on the way she displays the Purebloods.

PBs are essentially Nazis, they believe in endowed superiority - something every right-minded person knows is just a fairytale, though a popular one that many people have used to justify their cause over the years.

i alway thought of GrindleWald more as Hitler. Numengard, I dont know if anyone knows about that but its very close to a concetracion camp name. BUt you do bring up good points relating Voldemort as Hitler.

I think that both Grindelwald and Voldemort were supposed to be representative of the pure-blood craziness of the Nazis.
But Voldie was also a mix of other rulers, too. Like Stalin and Rasputin, and others.

yes, this was a strong parrallel to hitler. Also, despite claims that voldemort wasn't a coward, remember voldemort was terrified of death. In fact it was his fear of death that killed him because it blinded him from other laws that govern life.
