Wow, she sounds awful. Is a ring really that important? He obviously feels bad enough about it, he doesn't need her being mad at him for being thoughtful.

yeah it was a sweet idea, just unfortunate he couldn't hold onto it lol. probably would have been better for it not to be a helium balloon.

omg i feel terrible for him... $12000? thats quite a lot... what a mean girlfriend... i mean, sure the ring might be nice, but there's no need to be so mad at him, its not like its his fault.. and that was a sweet gesture!!

That is horrible of her. I would of been upset yes.. but not mad at him. heck he spend $12,000 on her. Granted he did loose it but still.. It's the thought that counts.

I'm glad you said that, because I am zctually of the opinion that an engagement ring would weigh the balloon down enough that it wouldn't blow away. Where the hell did he get it from if it was the light, a Cracker Jacks box?

I don't think an engagement ring would be heavy enough to weigh a balloon down, especially if there was any wind at all. You would think that if he was looking for donations he wouldn't say it was worth thatmuch. Because the way I look at it is, if he was willing to spend that much on a freakin piece of jewelry, then he doesn't deserve to get that money back. Now, if he said he paid a lot less and used all of his hard earned savings or something lame like that, like if the article specifically states how he lived in poverty for 5 years to pay for it, then maybe people would be dumb enough to donate. But 12K... I don't think any one is feeling bad for the loss money, just the fact that his gf is nasty.

^ I disagree . . . $12K buys one hell of a heavy diamond. If it wasn't, then he got seriously ripped off. Helium can easily hold up a rubber balloon, but ring should keep it from blowing away. It might stay off of the ground with the ring in it, but I doubt that it would blow away.

lol, well... although that would be the ideal way to go about this, I think it would make more sense to find out how much the average 12k ring weighs.... then use something that weighs the same amount. Something much less expensive.
And if all else fails, we'll ask for donations... all in the same of science.

How does the weight of a diamond ring compare to the weight of those little plastic tags they use to hold helium balloons down? I think if the wind was very strong it probably could have overcome the weight of the ring.

The guy doesn't sound like he's in a very good relationship if the girl cares that much about the ring. I think I'd be more angry that the guy was so careless with so much money (actually, I'd be angry that he'd spend that much on an engagement ring in the first place), rather than demand a new ring.

unless he were very rich, id rather that he save that money for our wedding or honeymoon, a trip together, or for our future family.
