There was no body discovered, and there was a man "with a bandage over one eye" in the chapter Gringotts. "
I just assumed he was gone.. anyone think otherwise? _________________
Wouldn't there have to be a body discovered in order to find the eye? I guess unless it fell out or something after he got hit. _________________

Hmm.. that's really interesting. I just reread the part where Bill recalls Mad-Eye's death to everyone else at The Burrow. It says:
"Voldemort's curse his Mad-Eye full in the face, he fell backward off his broom and- there was nothing we could do,nothing, we had a half a dozen of them on our own trail -"
I just assumed that Mad-Eye was actually dead. Maybe Voldemort had used a different curse, and not the AK. Bill & Fleur could've been mistaken about that, but that seems unlikely. Then again, maybe falling from a high distance of his broomstick was enough to kill him. And there was no body discovered...and a man "with a bandage over one eye" in Gringotts...?
How did Umbridge get it though?
I mean how would she get it even if he had died?
I would have thought if one of the death eaters found him alive they would have taken him to where they kept Ollivander.
Or if not they atleast would have killed/tortured him because he put so many DE's in Azkaban.
Did he have a will?
Would he have left his eye to someone?
If the ministry was in on it surely Voldemort would want the eye, it can see through everything. _________________
Voldemort took over the Ministry so isn't it obvious he could have made search teams from the Ministry look for the body ? I am sure Umbridge was sent in as well and since Mad-Eye was hit in the face his eye could have flung out of the socket. So upon finding it on the ground she takes it for herself and the Ministry removes the body to make it seem like everything is okay. _________________ Peace is a lie. There is only passion.

If Moody was still alive, why didn't he come back and help the Order? Why doesn't he reappear at all? Rowling doesn't mention him ever again in DH. As much as I don't like it, Moody is dead. _________________ Follow, please follow me home

i believe mad eye is alive because otherwise all the curses and everything that he put on grimmauld place, like the one with dumbledore saying snape's name, would vanish. like how the fidielius charm did when dumbledore died.
This is an extremely good point. I could speculate on whether Mad-Eye died for days, I know I could. Everyone wants Mad-Eye to be alive, or any good HP fan.

He was because of course he was an amazing Auror, and that was his assigment... it was also obvious that he had a personal bond with Harry, not only because of what happened to his parents but because Mad-Eye was an original Order of the Phoenix member with Harry's parents.
I don't want him to be dead so this thread is making a whole lot of sense to me. _________________

I am sure that mad eye is alive. Bill saw him get cursed by voldemort and when he went to recover the body in the spot where is approxiametley happened, bill didn't find anything. Therefore he left and no way could umbridge have found him. i'm sure that the eye on her door was a different one

That means Harry buried a random eye lol. No I think the eye was Moody's but I'm hoping he's not dead. _________________
i think mad eye is dead and since he died before voldermort took over the ministry i think scrimgeur just covered up the murder coz he didnt want to alarm the community. he was a good auror and the news of his death would have caused a panic attack _________________ life is what you make of it.
