Well, I currently have Windows Vista, Which i dislike, and i would like to downgrade to Windows Xp. I recently got my hands on a Windows Xp home edition disk. My mom no longer needed it because she upgraded to vista. So my question is... Could i downgrade with this disk ? I have never downgraded before and i am afraid to do so. Someone told me downgrading completely wipes your hard drive. I don't want that. >.< Also, i want to know if i will be able to upgrade back to vista when it finally becomes compatible with normal everyday things. My p.c. came with vista but not the install disk....so yeah.

^^^ I have the same question! My laptop came with vista but not the backup disk for it. I don't completely dislike vista, i just like XP better. I also have a disk for Windows XP.

I'm not sure about Installing two O.S.'s on my p.c. Doing that will mean cutting my hard drive in half.

Yeah, i rather have XP until they are sure Vista is finished because it obviously isn't. Just worried about what will happen to my p.c. if i downgrade.
I also wanted to know the pros and cons.

Whoever that someone was is right. Downgrading requires wiping your hard drive, or possibly splitting it like you said. But that's an advanced thing to do.. and you can end up screwing your hard drive up if you're not sure what you're doing. But it's probably still something you could google and find a procedure for.

Also - I don't know if you've used Windows XP Home before, but it completely and totally sucks. It's different from XP Professional.. and most retailers use Professional for a reason. I would say you might regret going back to XP Home more than just keeping Vista for now.

And if you don't have a complete install disk for Vista.. don't do it. Not even if you have just a recovery disk - that still might not work. Those just have like, the basic drivers and stuff.

This is why Microsoft sucks, man.

I think he was mainly referring to the bugs that Vista has. I mean, yea we'll all eventually have to get used to it. But right now it's a buggy piece of crap for most people.

and of course Microsoft is making another new OS, which will be buggy most likely.

I do think Microsoft should keep there products in beta testing a lot longer than they have bin doing.

I was just reading that Microsoft are giving out Windows XP downgrade disks until the users are ready to move on to Vista.

You're right. Here's an article I found.

http://www.tgdaily.com/content/view/34015/140/

This is unprecedented by Microsoft - and.. also something I would consider very embarrassing for a company. It's pretty much the same thing as a recall.

Same here, but you shouldn't have problems downgrading operatings systems. Also, it will wipe your HD because your installing a whole new system. My dad and I have done it before. It's a pain, but handy in the end.

Run both programs on your computer, have Vista, to where you can click on xp, and go into that. Why downgrade? When you can have your cake and eat it too I say! Very Happy
