I wonder. Will this spell kill you if it only grazes a shoulder, or does it have to hit you full on. In the books, the only times this spell was used, it either hit someone full on in the chest, or missed completely. How do you think this sell works?

I don't think it matters where it hits you or how hard, if it hits you, you're gone.

Maybe, if the spell is going to hit, it just aims itself for the heart- I could see a ray of light doing that- it's fast enough- you point your wand and if your aim is close enough, you get someone full-on. If you're not, you might as well be shooting straight up into the air for all the ray will do. Like a Tv remote control. ZAP! As long as you're in the area of effect, you might as well be dead on.

Kind of like "heat-seeking"? Sounds *dead-on* to me.

ok, i get it. Its kind of upsetting that a person can use a spell like that without paying a cost of energy or something. seems too easy to kill.

That's the idea, it's so quick and simplistic. It's the beauty of the finality of death.

I don't know for sure, but I would guess that if it hit you at all you would die because its a killing curse, so I'd think it would have to kill you.

I imagine it like a fast small bullet. It can hit or miss. I doubt it would just graze someone.

A new question.

Would a single Protego spell last againest a flurry of Unforgiveables, or would it, like a shield or a bubble, break?

actually i've been wondering whether it is possible to block or deflect. I imagine there are shielding spells that are more difficult, but more powerful than protego. Or if not blocking completely, but taking off the deadly aspect of the spell and just having it be a severe impedimenta/sectumsempre.

The Killing Curse is unblockable.

even the strongest blow, though unblockable, can be parried. If you can fling a statue in front of the spell to deflect it, there has got to be some way (magically) to parry the blow, not block, but parry...

True, if the Killing Curse hit a statue or something, JKR lets us beilieve that some curses or spells can 'bounce' around until it runs out or it hits a living target.

Moody said that every fourth year in his class could hit him with that spell at once and he would barely sneeze. It takes an immensely powerful wizard to pull it off. It's not that easy.
