i forgot to add an "i don't live in the US" as an option..so just put no or not old enough if thats the case. i put YES because even though califas is a democratic state and regardless of who i vote for it will always be that way i feel that if you don't vote you have no right to complain when something happens that you don't approve of

I don't underastand how they would be able to make it mandatory for everyone to vote. I mean, they have a enough trouble keeping order with the violence and what-not... the police and government can barely control what goes on normally, can you imagine them having to force people to vote? It's not possible. Plus, there are those who really can't get out to vote on Electon Day.

The way it works in Oz is you have an electoral role and you go in to vote, get your name marked off and then vote. If you don't or you didn't put your name on the roll in time you get fined. We still get the occasional donkey vote but, generally if people have to go and vote in the first place they usually want to make it count.

I think here, they wouldn't make it count. It would really just cause anarchy. Ralph Nader would have one in 2000, hands down, lol.
And yeah, the gov't here has enough problems collecting fines for parking tickets, I doubt they'll be able to do anything about thousands of no-show ballots that all occur on one day.

I think the day the U.S. tried to force me to vote for someone I don't give a shit about, would be the day I move to another country. That's just the stupidest thing I've ever heard. "Make a decision, NOW, or we'll force you to pay us money!" Seriously, what the eff.
If Guliani wins the primaries, I'll vote. If not, then no, I won't be voting. |

Well here we are taught morals and history, so when we grow up we already want to vote. So the fines only effect the outliers. Plus it's not voting for one side or the other, we have like eight people to vote for, and they're very diverse. Plus there's another ballot to be even more specific.

We're taught morals and history here, too. But unfortuantely, people here tend to be more rebellious against authority.

It's the reason I've never voted, but I might in this election if the primaries go the way I want them to. Elsewise, I'm not. I refuse to give my vote, in turn stand for something, that I don't think is right. In most cases, it's the "lesser of two evils" situation, in which case, you lose, regardless. |
