im confused... do wizards/witches require wand to transform into animagus...??
in POA.. Chapt 20..
they say pettigrew dived for lupin's dropped wand... and later we say he transformed himself with the help of the wand..and ran away in teh form of a rat...
but on contradictory.... Sirius black..who had no wand when he was in Azkaban.. how did he transform into a dog..with out a wand...??
and also on the night when lupin transforms into a werewolf...
So... what actually i want to ask is that..is wand required to turn into animaguus or not... _________________

I don't believe it does require a wand... I have nothing to back that up though... other than what you said about Sirius not having his want in Azkaban. Interesting.
you dont need a wand to change, wormtail didnt have a wand when he transformed and escaped, you know, when lupin transformed into a werewolf in the third book _________________

Sirius didn't use a wand in PoA or GoF, he didn't have one... I'm guessing with enough practice you don't need a wand. I remember in the books it said that the others used to have to help Wormtail change? Well, he was not known for being very good at magic, maybe after awhile a wizard doesn't need one. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre
I think that is has to do with how powerful the wizard is. You should be able to do it wandless just like any other spell if you are good enough. _________________

I'm pretty sure you can transform without a wand.. and where would the wand go if you become an animal? Animals don't have pockets for the wand and they don't have hands to carry it..that would look odd if you just saw a random frog or something carrying a wand, haha.. _________________
okie..another thing..if wormy wasnt powerful..how could he staright away kill cedric..??
remember moody(imposter) said.. young wizards like the students..if they used killing curse.. it would hardly harm its prey..
as you need to be really powerful to use the killing curse..
then how did he kill cedric.. moreover..using the Dark Lord's wand..?..when we know that
Spoiler:
it does not work well when we use someone else's wand...
If the permission gives you permission to use the wand, it works just fine. It like wearing your friend's jeans. It might feel a little uncomfy, but it gets the job done.
I'm wondering if Wormtail was anything like Crabbe and Goyle. They sucked at potions and stuff, but when they learned things they were interested in, they excelled at their classes. Perhaps Wormtail was just more interested in teh Dark Arts and worked to improve himself. Or maybe he just got better with time in general. Or maybe Voldemort scared the magic out of him. _________________ ^made by Fiendfyre

First of all, I loved the simile.
On top of what you said, I definately think that a wizards powers have a lot to do with his personality and interests. For instance, we all know that Harry was a powerful wizard, yet he had trouble with the unforgivable curses. He just didn't have that kind of malice in him. Tom Riddle, on the other hand, was AKing people in his teens. Maybe he have to have the strong emotions associated with a spell in order to be able to do it. That's why Jo gave Harry the patronus. It's a powerful spell that requires powerful emotions, but they're good ones. _________________

The way I understand it, you don't need a wand to transform. You transform "at will" (as Hermione puts it). You just need to "will" yourself to transform, and you become the animal which reflects your nature (as JKR said). In short, it's hard to learn but once you get the hang of it it becomes second nature.
(Wormtail dove for Lupin's wand, probably hoping to kill/stun/obliviate them all before he escaped). _________________ "I can make things move without touching them. I can make bad things happen to people who are mean to me." -- Tom Riddle (HBP movie).
^Yeah I think the only reason he dove for the wand was so he could stun Ron. In the movie he uses the wand but not in the book. He only needed the wand to stun Ron. _________________ Amor Vincit Omnia!
In the books it says that the others had to help him transform.
exactly, so i dont think it depends on powers, after you manage to be an animagi you do the change naturally without the need for wands _________________
