I have pondered the significance of the title 'Spinner's End' ever since I first read the story.

A 'Spinner' is someone who spins a web of lies that are suited to benefit that person. They in turn use those lies to manipulate situations to their advantage. That sounds a little bit like Snape, doesn't it? Snape has spent the last 16 years of his life weaving a web of deceit. He has either been lying to Voldemort about his loyalties, or he's been lying to Dumbledore. Snape is the 'Spinner'.

Up until this chapter he has done a very good job at weaving his web, but in a matter of seconds that weaving is over. Snape doesn't know what Draco's mission is, because you can tell that he's trying to goat Cissy into spilling whatever it is Draco is supposed to do.

The UV that Cissy asks of him brings about his 'End', so to speak. Everything he has done unti lnow has been ambiguous, which made it hard to figure out what side he is really on. His slip up of saying he knew of the plan, when he really didn't caused Cissy to ask him to do an UV, which sealed him to a fate that he never wanted. If he refused Cissy and Bella would know he was on Dumbledore's side, so he had to agree to it. He was fine with it unti lCissy got to the part where Snape would have to fulfill the mission if Draco failed, which was why he hesitated. To fulfill the mission would make it look like he was a DE, even if he truly wasn't.

Thus the UV was the 'Spinners End' or Snapes end.

What do you think??? I'm open to all suggestions!!!

Well, that might be a possibility, but considering the title is a reference to the place where Snape lives, I'm not sure. "End" is sometimes used in place names, but I can think of only one example: in Lord of the Rings , Bilbo Baggins' house(hobbit-hole, actually) was called Bag End. And anyone who's read the book knows Bilbo is still alive at the end. But it might be a possibility, a hidden clue of Snape's fate.

I'd have to say: that's the best theory of Snape's loyalties I've ever seen.

Personally, I think Snape's loyalties are to himself. He does whatever suits him. You see, when he heard the prophesy about Voldemort and Harry (oh yes, he heard ALL of it), he sent a message to Voldemort about a prophesy about him. But he thought better of it just as Voldemort was about to come, so he only told half of the prophesy.

When Voldemort said he was going after the Potters, Snape was between a rock and a hard place. He and R. Black leaked out that Voldemort was after the Potters. When the Deatheaters found out, he killed Black to "proove" his loyalty. He hoped that, if Voldemort couldn't find the Potters, he'd go after the Longbottoms (thus ending his dept to James Potter).

So when James and Lily died, Snape was sorry. And mad, as if James died intentionally as a last bit of spite towards Snape. So he betrayed his fellow Deatheaters to keep himself safe.

Thus starts your Spinners theory.

Thanks Forlong!

At first I thought that I was stretching everything when I first thought of this theory, since I'm a big Snape supporter, but the more I thought about it the more I felt that it was very close to the truth.

Oh yeah. Although I believe Snape's loyalties are to Dumbledore's side, he's certainly the type of person to do quite a bit of what he does for himself, rather than either Voldemort or Dumbledore.

The way I see it, either he is loyal to Dumbledore or he is trying to keep himself acceptable to both sides so he comes out on top whichever one wins. I'm sure if Voldemort won, Snape wouldn't then fight on futiley for what Dumbledore wanted- he'd work for Voldemort.

I believe Snape remains loyal to Dumbledore. He had to kill him b/c he had made the UV.

Even though I have the hopes for Snape being a good guy, he still has to play Voldy in the process; I just don't see that going very well.

I think Snape is gonna die... He dont have much hope... He's served his purpose in the book and his next purpose could be dying and starting something in the 7th book.
