""All-in-all, a great person, a great woman, just a wonderful person" is how Alexis Guidry described her mother to Local 2 Investigates.
"As far back as I can remember, they've always voted in the election," Guidry said of her parents.
The March 2008 Primary was no exception. Voting records show Alexis' mom, Gloria Guidry, cast her ballot in person near her South Houston home.
"It was just very shocking, a little unsettling," said Alexis Guidry.
It's unsettling because Gloria Guidry died of cancer 10 months before the March Primary."

"Texas Watchdog compared Harris County's voter registration roll with the Social Security death index and found more than 4,000 matches -- registered voters that, it appears, are already dead."

Because it shows how corrupt American democracy is?
Hypocrisy is the word that sums it up.
"We are the land of the free and the democratic. We're going to spread democracy all over the world. Oh, well ignore the 2000 election where legitimate voters were excluded from casting ballots and ignore the fact that the election outcome was decided unelected judges. Ignore the fact that there have been dozens of discrepancies and ballot errors regarding electronic voting. And please ignore the fact that dead people are somehow turning up to vote. We really do believe in democracy." _________________
Seriously, if you hate our country so much, why do you concern yourself with it so much? Full marks on ignoring the actual crux of what I was saying and responding with a barrage of personal attacks.
It's interesting that even the smarter and more progressive people in the US are willing to overlook the huge and gaping flaws in their own professed values and resort to crude, negative patriotism by attacking those that point them out.
I can also guarantee you that if there was a case of an election in Australia being decided by the Supreme Court, not the voters, I would post it up. If there was an example were electronic voting machines in Australia would be rigged, I would post it. If there was an example of dead people voting in Australia, I would post it. But that's not even important. Australia is a country of 20 million people and virtually nothing we do affects anyone else. However the US has been the worlds biggest economic and military superpower and examples of broken democracy there have lead to problems and issues that you yourself have been critical of and that effect the whole world.
Unfortunately for you, this incident occurred in the United States and I believe it's significant enough to point out and share. I also think it's completely legitimate to point out the hypocrisy present in America where Americans enjoy pretending that they have the greatest democracy in the world, to the extent that they'll bomb other places and force it on them, but they have their own history of quite severe corruptions of the democratic process. Acknowledge that as a fact, because it is one. Don't ignore it and try and change the topic to personal attacks on me or democracy in other countries. _________________
Ginny, I think Marxx "cares" because it's like a domino effect. One developed country goes down, the whole damn world starts crumbling!
Wait, isn't that already happening?
Yeah, but he's from Australia who never is involved in world issues anyway. They're like Switzerland, always just chillin while everyone one else fights it out.
I didn't result in personal attacks. I only asked why you care so much about what goes on in our country, since your country is never involved with us, anyway. Speaking of gettiing top marks on personal atacks, I let you get away with calling us stupid too many times. That's my fault beacuse now you think it is alright to do so. Next time, I will take action. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan "To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice. You're quite wrong. Australia "fought it out" with the US in WW1, WW2, the Korean War, the Vietnam War, the first Gulf War, the second Gulf war and the Afghanistan War.
The US is Australia's 3rd biggest trading partner. Both the US and Australia have been economically, militarily and socially intertwined for decades. Whatever your Presidents do impacts on us, quite markedly. But even if it didn't I reserve the right to highlight corruption and fraud in the democratic process. I still don't understand why you're so against it.
Quote:
Dude, nearly every election in every country has voter fraud somewhere. Most of it goes undetected.
Couple of things. I dunno how many countries have dead people voting. And no, most countries around the world do not cases of voter fraud anything like that's been experienced in the US over the last few general elections. Yes there are some countries with huge amounts of ballot rigging and the like but I don't think you want to compare Zimbabwe, Pakistan, etc. with the "greatest democracy in the world".

Out of curiousity, how would you guys feel if this happened to a deceased relative of yours? _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan "To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice. With pie." ~ Anya <3
The truth isn't always "nice."
Lots of people say not nice things on this forum.
But it's not okay for the Aussie to dislike the US, because he doesn't live here?
Then stop criticizing Republicans, because you're Democrats.
Everyone everywhere pays attention to what happens in the US, because it effects every person living in it. And no one likes us.
And you know, I never did find the zebra jokes amusing. _________________

the point of my post was.. there is a difference between debating and being mean, and the aussie poster wasnt being nice and debating.. he was being mean. _________________

Care to point out where?
Pointing out hypocrisy is not "mean".
The whole tone of all your posts in every thread are negative, argumentative and rude. You have never posted anything positive, even in the fun threads.
I'm not saying that just because you're Australian doesn't mean you can't talk bad about our country, but my question remains as to why do you care so much? I mean you really hate us. I can't imagine hating anyone so much, but you seem to not only hate a whole country, but everyone in it. That amount of hate can not be good for anyone. We're not all bad people and most of us aren't stupid. We're well aware of who we can and can't trust, despite how naive you think we are. There really isn't much we can do about it, but instead of just throwing it in our face how messed up our situation is, some constructive criticism would be nice. We're well aware of how bad things are right now, but having one person go from thread to thread laughing at us and figuretively rolling their eyes is a crummy thing to do. The situation is serious, we know that, but is there a nicer way you can say it instead of resorting to calling us all stupid? That sort of name-calling isn't neccasary. _________________ Blame it on a simple twist of fate. ~ Bob Dylan "To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice. This thread is particularly critical of the electoral committee in charge of ballot papers.
No where in this thread, or any other thread, have I referred to America as "stupid" nor Americans as "stupid". I do not "hate" you nor do I "hate" America. That notion is ludicrous and offensive. It's pretty sad that you automatically turn anything that points out a flaw or a value I disagree with and say "OMG YOU HATE AMERICA, HOW DARE YOU". It's reminiscent of those people who won't allow any criticism of their government or country because it's "un-patriotic". Except of course, the irony is, you seem to be allowed to criticise all you want because you're American. But SHOCK HORROR someone else has noticed that the election commission stuffed up and that means he hates America!!!!!!!!!111!!
I don't quite see the point of this 'discussion' since it has no relevance on the topic and is virtually attacking me and claiming I've said things that I've never said.
It's quite obvious to most people who don't have ego issues involved that my posts contain a lot more information, facts and discussion than simple "eye-rolling". _________________
I've noticed in a few threads now that people are ganging up on Marxx, saying that he hates America because of his posts critizing America's current situation. To be honest, isn't every single American guilty of doing this? Just because he's not American it doesn't mean his posts are any less valid or relevant to our current crappy situation. When FlamingMonkey made similar posts, no one accused him of hating all americans.
Yes, the american people on a whole are ignorant. We all know that! We've all admitted it. Large populations, on a whole, are idiotic. And lately, America has been making itself look quite stupid. I think everyone, republicans and democrats alike, can agree that we dislike the way things in our government are playing out.
Because he's foreign doesn't mean that he "hates" america, as we all are so willingly mistaken to believe. I certainly hope not, seeing as he loves me and I'm American. Would be certainly stupid to date someone who you hated, no?
He also has American family members, he's been to America quite a few times and found it agreeable and plans on returning again in December. I don't see how any of this translates to hate...
On the topic of discussion, I think its rather sad that our country has resorted to using dead people to cast votes and I'm thrilled that it was caught and exposed. Hopefully no one will gain an unfair advantage in this upcoming election. _________________ Here's How!|Graphics
I kind of have to agree with Marxx and Kesington on this. America may be the greatest country in the world, but we definitely are not acting like it. I mean, c'mon, some people in this country elected Bush for christ's sake!
Whoever thinks this country is going to flourish under McCain's policies; I feel sorry for you.
As for the hypocrisy - there is way too much of that in the world...not just America. _________________ Yas and Simmy - Putting Luna on catwalks since 2008!

Well, I've heard people say that this is the greatest country in the world, but in my own opinion, I disagree on almost every level with that. _________________ Yas and Simmy - Putting Luna on catwalks since 2008!
