did anyone else get annoyed when hermione kept saying "it could be a girl" when referring to the half blood prince? even when it did turn out to be snape's mother's last name, it still doesn't make sense for her to keep thinking it could possibly be a girl.

why would you read a name "half blood prince" and automatically say it could be a girl? that just seems like an illogical step

Half-Blood Princess would indicate that HBP would have been a female, even know Snape's mum's surname was Prince she wasn't a half-blood was she?

Maybe if she was female, she just liked the name as males usually have more power Razz

There are no princes in the wizarding world, so Hermione automatically assumed it was a last name, which it was. It could've been a girl. I find it humorously ironic that Hermione thought it was a girl, but it was actually Snape. It wonder what he would do if he found out Hermione thought HBP was a girl!

there aren't any princes in america, either, but enough people walk around calling themselves that. why when you read somethning that you think is a nickname that has an obviously male word in it would you think female at all? it just seems like a very illogical jump for someone who is all about logic

She only just suggested it could be a girl. The thing was, she was right. Eileen Prince was a girl and it was most likely her text book before she gave it to her son. The handwriting in it was girly, too.
The H alf-Blood Prince turned out to be a boy, but Hermion e was right in considering the gender to be a female because it led her to the right answer. If she thought it to be a boy, she might not have stumbled upon Snape's mother's maiden name.
She looked outside the box... she didnt' just assume it was a nickname, she looked at the words from every angle.

She probably kept saying "it could be a girl" because she herself is a girl.

if you saw "this book belongs to the queen of hearts" what does your brain initially go to: male or female?

Hermione did consider it to be a boy, she only just suggested it to be a girl. JKR had to have it that way because she needed to have Hermione investigate all angles.
But even when I think of Queen, I think of the music group, who were all male.

I don't know if it was because she "wanted to investigate all angles" but she sure as hell pissed me off by repeating it and her Doomsday theories about how the Half Blood Prince would consume the world and kill everyone and their grand children with a fork throughout the book. Razz It was the most annoying part in the series, for me.

P.S to whoever didn't get it: The consuming of the world with a fork part is sarcasm.

She actually thought it would be with a spoon.

I think I've commented somewhere else in this forum about that. The last two books she really annoyed me, and how she wouldn't listen to Harry about the fact

that Ron saved his life.

This is such a idiot type thing to say. Why would you think that the Half-Blood PRINCE was a girl. I mean, come on? I read this chapter today when I was re-reading HBP. And that really really ticked me off. Annoyed.

that's exactly what i'm saying. some people here seem to disagree that this is just a really illogical step to take, but i still say it is dumb.

I'd never call myself a Prince.

Maybe she thought this girl was gender-confused or something (being totally serious).

Haha, I dont know about that. But I just think that whole suggestion about him being a her is really idiotic.

I agree with GinnyX, Hermione was just looking at it from all angles...I mean it wasn't really a prince, so technically there was just as good of a chance of it being a girl.

I really don't think she was just saying it because she is a girl...she's always been the one in the series to look at things from all different angles and consider different possibilities.

I can imagine getting mad if she said it was for sure a girl and not a boy, but what's wrong with thinking about both possibilities?

well prince didn't really mean like title but like surname. If my name is Isabella King, I won't as my friends to call me Queen, will I?

yes, but if you walked around writing "king of cartoons" on a book, someone is going to say "oh, clearly this is a man in a purple coat with a crown that walks around and shows cartoons from a projector" not "man, that king girl really likes cartoons"
