^Second half of Jo's interview with Meredith Vieira on MSNBC..it's very sad when she's talking about her mum, but she also explains what the original final line was, the one ending with the word 'scar'.

Spoiler:

"Only those whom he loved could see the lightning scar."

I would have liked this better, really.
What do you guys think?

All she says in the interview is that 'all was well' "felt right".

I would've preferred to have the original last sentence. It's way better than that cliche line she used.

Exactly the same thought I had. The original sentence would probably been the better choice of the two. What better way to remember a series but to put the original sentence.

Eh, I really don't care either way. It's one sentence, you know? The epilogue as a whole was unnecessary but a nice touch to end the series. Either is fine.

Either way works really. Being that "All is well." is what she chose, I have no problems with it. But then I seem to be in the minority that liked the epilogue for what it was.

I like the all was well ending.
If she used the "Only the people who loved harry would see his scar,"
she would almost be repeating herself,
since she did that with the Thestrals.

And,
now the scar's like a medal of honor.

because the original alst sentence is alittle more complicated and after all this time i think jk just wnated to end it simply so everyone could understand it.

maybe sometimes cliche is a little better. a little sweeter. i mean at first i didnt like the epilouge, now I like it better. for so long harry's life has been anything but sweet and cliche, is one line compared to all the books so bad???

Hehe when I read the last line I turned the page expecting more Sad And my Nan thought she had pages missing lol. I'm happy with how it ended, I wouldnt of minded the other line though. Both are good.

She changed it because she thought that the original sentence was too vague, and some people might misinterpret it. When she wrote it, she was imagining all of these people milling around, but only those who he truly loved were clode enough (physically) to see the scar. She wanted it to seem personal, but the effect seemed lost when she was writing the epilogue. So she changed it to, as some one said above, something more simpler. She wanted a tone of finality. "All was well," was just that.

In the interview for the which the link is provided, J.K. Rowling says she felt a sense of contentment and relief when the line, "All is well," came to her. And frankly, if that's good enough for J.K. Rowling, it's good enough for me.

I like the all was well ending, but the epilogue was a little vague. She could have written a lot more about the characters, it's not like she hasn't really thought about it, i mean, she added some stuff in the interviews she gave, about Neville and Luna, etc.

All was well is a little cliche, but it works, in my opinion.

I like the original sentence better. There is something about all was well taht sounds akward, or something. I can't explain it right.

I like the way the original one sounds though perhaps the cliche seems to fit the mood of the epilogue better. It was really happy and bouncy whereas the original one has a different tone to it. It's still happy but leaves something to be thought about if that makes any since!
