Why does everybody hate David Yates so much? Is it just because Order of the Phoenix wasn't very good to you? Or what is it? I really don't mind him that much, and am just curious to why people think he is horrible.

Ohhh... here is my list....

What he did to OotP is horrific. The longest book became the shortest movie. And the esence of the book was lost. Don't get me wrong, I actually enjoyed the movie. However, the choices he made are completely questionable. For instance.... the students getting off the train in their muggle clothes.
I absolutely hate him for saying that Ginny went from being a maternal figure to Harry into a sexual being. Neither of those things describe Ginny and Harry's relationship, yet that is how he describes them. He obviously didnt' understand the books or the characters. He needs to go back and actually read all seven books over again and then come back and direct the rest of teh Harry Potter movies before he ruins all the character's developments completely.

Hmmm, you do make a good point GinnyX. The first time I saw the movie I didn't like it because I was obviously comparing it to the book, but the more I saw it, the more I appreciated it for just a movie that it was. And it wasn't bad.
But I also agree with you when you say:

That was just uncalled for. He does need to understand them more, and the books 2.
But other than that... I see know reason to HATE him. Yet. We will have to wait until July to see... ; )

The word "hate" is very strong. As a person he could be really nice. The actors all seem to praise him. And I heard that as a director he's technically very good. Like, he gives good direction and stuff. But I feel like in order for him to gain my respect, he needs to study the books more.

Well, that wasn't just Yates. He doesn't cast, the casting director casts. He does have a say, though. Coulson is pushing 30. Even with make-up he wouldnt' look the same. And, if they're going to use make-up to cover him up, they might as well just use a different actor altogether. They were probably trying to go for accuracy in age.

He would've been perfect for the 20-something-year-old Riddle part, but of course that isn't in the movie.

Yeah hate is a very strong word. I hardly ever use it. Except in sarcasm. =) And I have also heard a lot of good about David , which is why I was just wondering what he did to make people so angry at him. =\

From what I've heard in interviews from the cast, he's a good director on the set. But as far as being a good director for the Harry Potter films, he's a tad arrogant and he needs to work more on staying true to the characters.

Lol. But even if OOTP wasn't so good, I think people should give him a little break, it wasnt all his fault. The new writer screwed it up mostly in my opinion.

Yeah, but he had the choice of directing it or not. I think he chose to because it's Harry Potter and it would kick off his directing career in later films. But because the movie was so horrendously bad, it might've screwed him over. Let's hope HBP is good. Smile

I like most of the stuff the guy says, its just how imo he completely messed up one of the best books in the series by changing too many things and rushing things...

Exactly why OotP was the worst movie in the series (so far).
