How did they really know about the finals of the QWC? I never in my mind thought they just guessed the final outcome.. Rowling never really revealed anything about it. I have been wondering this since the book first came out. Was it just a guess on their part? Did Rowling actually have something planned for that but forgot/wrote it off?

thanks

She did answer this awhile back...

Quote:
ES: How on earth did Fred and George know that Ireland would win and Bulgaria would get the Snitch?

JKR: Well, I think that if you were really into Quidditch you could have predicted that. What they had -

ES: But how can you predict that, because you don't know when the Snitch is going to show up.

JKR: It was a risk. They risked everything on it. That is Fred and George, isn't it? They are the risk-takers in the family. You've got Percy at one end of the family — conform, do everything correctly — and you've got Fred and George, who just take a totally different life path and were prepared to risk everything. They risked all they had, which is as much as anyone can do.

You figure, they knew that Irleland had a good team, but their seeker was pretty weak. Krum, on the otherhand was very good. So it makes sense to think that the Irish chasers would rack up some points, but that Krum would get the snitch before Lynch could.

thats what i thought all along. heheheh...

i can just imagine the pressure for a seeker. its like, all or nothing. if you get the snitch, youre a hero. if you dont, youre a loser. unlike the chasers who can score a wide range of points.

Well, it depends... remember in HBP, Ginny had to wait for Demelza, Katie, and Dean to score a certain amount of points before she could catch the snitch? Yeah, there was a lot of pressure on Ginny, but the Chasers were also under pressure to score a certain amount of points in order to win.

Well, if you think about it also. Reading through Goblet again, Krum seems to be a moody person. That may have shown up in other Quidditch matches.

Though, did they know? It seems like they bet a long shot (remember, Bagman gave them some pretty long odds). That, and the fact that Quidditch games have been known to take ages at the QWC.

I don't think they knew, I think they took a chance, had the odds to do it, and hit big.
