The french tittle of this book is : "Harry Potter ŕ l'école des sorciers" !
in english it's : "Harry Potter at the Sorcerer's school"
it's strange, no ?
they not speak about the stone in the french tittle !!

Nope, it's just Scholastic think American kids are dumb and won't buy a book that has a title that sounds remotely intelligent.
Philosopher the same thing in both countries.
IMO it was a terrible decision, since Nicholas Flamell was an alchemist not a sorcerer and since the stone is actually called the philosopher's stone in the myth not the "sorcerer's" stone. Okay, maybe that may sound better to some 13 year old, but it's wrong, JK didn't intend it to be like that.
Any american harry potter fan should try reading the british version and getting translations for the british slang, if you want the true harry potter experience. |

What I said? Or someone else? It wasn't intended to slag off american kids, just Scholastic.
Plus the book is quintessentially british middle class and that was part of it's magical appeal to me when I read the first book.
That it wasn't all hollywoody and modern, that it was old fashioned like the magical world is portrayed to be.
It looses that in the US version. |

Just different versions of the book. I prefer philosiphers... But I can spell sorcerers at least, lol. I never get 'Philosopher's' spelling right...
