I think that since Avatar is done in the general style of anime, I'd prolly call it something like "American Anime" which is sorta contradicting itself. so. uh..... yeah. :/ _________________ Twilight fan? Come here!

Not exactly. I just think Avatar is a really bad imitation of the style. But the fact is, there are different styles and don't even look close to generic anime that come from Japan and they are still considered anime...so I guess origin does play a part.
I find that interesting that you think Avatar is a bad immitation, of all the American imitations of anime out there I think think its one of the better ones. But I do agree that it's not anime. Anime is short for Japanimation, which comes from Japan (hence the name)
i, myslef, really hate it when people call anime cartoons. mainly cuz when they say it, its a derogative term towards the show im watching. i.e "omg, your twenty and you watch cartoons?!" or "im so not going to watch a cartoon, change the channel." _________________
Ridiculous that people are bothered by it; anime is a type of cartoon. I usually call them "Japanese cartoons" when talking to someone who would not have heard of anime. And to say that classifying anime as a cartoon would bring it down is equally ridiculous. It is what it is, and there happen to be some great American cartoons too: Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, South Park, and the classic Nick ones too like Rocko's Modern Life.
you know when im told that im too old to be watching 'cartoons' i really want to round house kick em. after all there is futurama and family guy that arent meant for kids... but when i point that out, usually they stare at me and say well, it still looks kiddy. another argument i have had thrown at me is that cartoons are meant for kids and shouldnt have blood and violence in it. who wants to watch a violent cartoon. <_< they forget tom and jerry and such. anime for some people, mainly i have found the popular preppy crowd is just uncool and i dont know why. anime has all sorts of categories. _________________
