I was fifteen when I got my permit, but I didn't technicalle get my license until I was 19. I still drove, though.

hahaha I hear ya. Luckily I didn't have really any bad experiences during driver's ed; it was mostly when I was driving with my parents. My dad was more calm, but my mom was always scared shitless, LOL. But about 8-9 years has passed since then, so I think they've gotten used to it. haha

I'm afraid of driving so I won't be even trying to get either until I have a desperate need for one. (Right now, everything I need is within walking distance of my house including potential workplaces, restaurants and shopping)

I really blame all those high school videos warning us to not drink and drive. I hate beer, and wine and champagne. It all tastes horrible, so I doubt I'd really be drink while I drive.
It's the idiots that do that scare me.

I can finally start my lessons next month when I turn 17 [the legal driving age here] then hopefully I'm aiming to pass my test before I turn 18.

Driver's Ed is the reason I've waited so long to even get a permit. Here, you can get your license at 18 without taking Driver's Ed, but I need to know how to drive. Therefore I have my permit.
But I'm so afraid to take Driver's Ed it's not even funny. I have a really huge fear of screwing up in front of underclassmen, which is who I would be taking it with because it's during the school year. Plus, the class is at like 6 in the morning and I don't function well at 6 A.M.

I got my license 3 months ago when I turned 16.
My permit when I was 15 1/2.
Getting your license is extremely easy.
Online Class
Written Test
6 Hours of Drivers Training (In LA at least you don't do this with your school)
Behind the Wheel Test
Easiest thing ever
I don't get why people wait so long, almost all 16 year olds here have their licenses.
