i am in complete understanding of the horizontal sigs.

but some pictures are vertical and when you shrink to the 200 gets wayyy too small to see.

can we have a separate size restriction for vertical pictures

if u need examples of my request tell me so i can clarify

You mean pictures that are already higher in height than they are in length?
You could try cropping out part of the top and/or part of the bottom of the picture.
Let me know if you need help with that.

i dunno if this is a great example but lets say i wanted to make this a sig, words and all...(w480/h640)

if i shrink it to 200, it looks like this...

where you cant read it

but a vertical revamp of size restrictions would give us this (at 400, it can be smaller...just for the example)

does that make sense?

*edit* 300 or 350 may be better cuz 400 is a lil big, but for the sake of the example ima keep it.

I know exactly what you mean. And my advice to you is, either crop out the top and/or the bottom of the picture or choose a new picture.

Your third option would be to argue sig sizes with Smexy.

The highest a sig may be is 200 pixels. This reduces the amount of scroilling through threads.

I know this is settled, but being a GFX artist, a signature is a small image as Ginny was saying. That would be considered just random art. Signatures basically fall under the sizes provided on these forums and pictures like that as you showed don't really categorize as signatures.

Sorry to butt in Sad.

The general thing to do is to find a picture that suits a message board. Long vertical graphics to work off of like that don't go well with message boards. The whole idea behind the rule is to keep the pages from stretching so long and also so one person's post of a couple sentences doesn't take up your entire screen because of the sig. As GinnyX said, you can try and crop out things, but in that particular graphic there is not much that you can crop out that wouldn't ruin the graphic altogether. It would be a pain for any sig maker to try and make that into a sig.. I myself wouldn't even try it, I'd just find a different HP graphic.

Have to agree with Eric, the sig size limits not only prevent scrolling and stretched/changed pages but they also prevent slower computers and/or Internet connection speeds form having to load so much at once. This would make the forum experience slower and a pain in the neck.

Even though this topic appears to have been resolved, I wanted to chime in and make sure this was all confirmed. The reason we have size restrictions in place is mainly to prevent horizontal scrolling and limit the amount of vertical scrolling needed. The choice of a 200 pixel maximum height seemed to be a decent compromize between image size and the amount of scrolling needed to read threads.
