JKR said that in PS, Jame and Lily had turned down Voldemort in the past. She said that he wanted them and they wouldnt come over.

Where is the evidence of this?

The evidence is that Jo said it. She created the stories. There isn't very much info about James and Lily in PS anyway. Also, Voldemort wanted really powerful wizards, and the Potters were extremely powerful. After all, he kept Snape close by, and Snape was extremely powerful, if dangerous to Voldemort's pursuit.

The thing that I never understood about Voldemort going after Lily was the fact that she was muggle-born. I know that he had a lot of half-blood followers, but a muggle-born!

Maybe he was really interested in James and figured they were a packaged deal. For all we know, he asked for Lily just to hurt her. Or perhaps he just wanted to keep his numbers high and knew muggle-born or not, she was a threat and if you can't beat them, trick them into joining you.

I think JKR said Lilly and James spolied Voldemort's plans 3 times same as Frenk and Alisa Longbottom and because of that prophecy which he partly heard he attacked Harry because he was half blooded and Nevile was pure-blooded.He didn't hear whole prophecy and that's why...well you know better then me what happend later when he tried to kill Harry as a baby.

Frank and Alice*, honey. Unless that's how it's spelled in the books you read? I don't know, many different languages and what not.

Did J.K. Rowling ever mention when Voldemort asked for James and Lily to join him? Because if it was sometime after Harry was born and before the death of James and Lily, maybe he just wanted them so he could get to Harry because of the Prophecy. In any case, we all know how history played out instead...

RIP James and Lily! We shall always remember. Crying

The evidence that Lily and James turned down Voldemort three times comes in the prophecy. Both James & Lily and Frank & Alice defied Voldemort three times each. That's why it could have been between Harry and Neville to be "the chosen one" who could defeat Voldemort. Voldemort chose Harry, because Harry was more like Voldemort, half-blood, etc.

Part of the attraction of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone comes from the familiar but at the same time exotic setting of an English public school, complete with houses and schoolboy adventures, in which Harry and his friends Ron and Hermione struggle to save the world and win the house cup. Part of it comes from the pleasantly frivolous (verging on spoof) take on the trappings of pop magic, with pointy hats and "Nimbus 2000" series broomsticks. And Rowling adds some delightful novelties of her own, such as Quid ditch, a seven-a-side ball game played on broomsticks, with three different kinds of balls. This is all pulled together by some excellent story-telling. Razz
