I don't know if it was just me but it seemed kinda odd the way the spirits were allowed to just roam about. We're talking about a place in which several people of different ages, most adolescents, live. I'm just saying, obviously Myrtle wasn't bound in any way since she pretty much was in the bath w/ harry..so...what would stop the rest of the spirits? ..the idea just left a bit of a creepy vibe in my mind... especially cuz of a certain naughty spirit; you know who i mean...

yeh well, it's not like the spirits were free to do what ever they wanted. if they were invading the students privacy and the students started to complain about it then action would be taken.
it's not like just because they were dead they could do whatever they wanted.

Well, when Myrtle died she was a teenager, she's going to be curious. And I think, if any of the students wanted to, they could speak up if they thought any of the spirits were being voyeurs.
Other than Myrtle, though, none of the other spiriits seemed concerned with the students, anyway.

Also, if ghosts become a nuissance, the Ministry will step in and take care of. Myrtle was forced to stay at Hogwarts after she tortured Olive Hornby for awhile. They can annoy, but as long as the kids aren't in danger then the ghosts are fine. So a freaking apparition looks at the boys in the bathroom. What is that honestly going to hurt?

What is particularly interesting is that ghosts can be inflicted with magic. So, whatever essence souls are made of are also imbued with magical properties. So, in turn, it can be assumed that magic emanates through the soul, using physical liasons to channel and direct it as desired.

Man, an Imperiused ghost would make an excellent scout/spy.

Can ghosts be be inflicted with magic? I know they can b e petrified... and they can b e unpetrified, but is that the same thing as magic from a wand? What I mean is, can the be stupified or Crucioed?

That is yet to be determined. I'm basing my assumptions off the variable that the Basilisk employs magic. It is, at the very least, a curse.

Well, seeing as how McGonagall conjured a fan to move Nearly Headless Nick instead of using magic to move him... I'm going to have to say that regular magic does not normally work on ghosts.

Well, Peeves.. but he's not a ghost like the others. He is solid and is able to manipulate objects.

Oh..damn. So there aren't any strong examples of ghosts being manipulated?

Not that I can recall. Unless you count being blown across Hogwarts with a fan, lol.
