Fun little anecdote from GinnyX:
When I was in 11th grade there was a really hot boy in the ninth grade. A few of my friends thought he was hot, too. Two of them dated him that year. One of them was in 10th grade, the other was also in 11th grade. Unfortuantely they found out they were dating him at the same time.... so neither of those relationships lasted long.

lol Laughing he must be really hot

Yeah, but he turned out to be a dumbass.... figures, lol.

Fun...

First of all, question the reasons behind your friends' conclusion. Why would they think it's a disgrace? What's wrong with dating a younger guy when older guys date younger girls half the time? Or, are they sexist?

Supposedly, women mature much faster than men (there's a 2 year difference or so, supposedly). If this is one of their reasons, keep in mind that there are always exceptions.

If you love him, have pride and joy when you're with him, it's that simple.

1) one year is not much of a difference. Besides, the difference gets smaller as you get older! (in terms of percentage) It would be something to wonder about if, say, there was a 4 or 5 year difference at that age.

2) things people find to be such a big deal in high school are so petty. Date whoever the hell you want. Screw what others think about it.

3) just a random fact from my family: it's tradition (or just a weird coincidence lol) that every male on my mom's side of the family marry a woman who is older than him.

If it makes you feel better my mom is older then my step dad by 7 years. Shes 42 and he's 35 or 36, I forget. Confused Anyways, age shouldn't manner as long as you like the person. It's up to you and other peoples dissensions shouldn't matter.

actually i understand what ur trying to say. if ur in high school then reputation means the world. if you must keep your relationship a secret then go keep it a secret. however, try to overcome that attitude because its not healthy. its normal, yes, but not good.

i was once like that. i cared about whom i was gonna have a relationship with and i wanted to make sure i wouldnt be dating a loser. but now, all that really matters is that he has a good heart and he shares the same values with me and that i can confide in him and carry a decent conversation. i dont really care if he's rich, handsome, popular, or whatever. smart though is always a good thing, and i prefer mature men... though if its a nineteen year old who is more mature than me then perhaps that wouldnt be so bad either. as long as im not dating a seven-year old...

So, what, that's it? That's the end of that?

Princess, understand that reputation isn't everything to some people, heck, I'm a good example of that (yes, I'm in high school).

Seriously though, if you really loved the guy, why the hell would you give a crap what other people think? The love of your life shouldn't be a shame, he/she (he in this case) should be your pride and joy.

If you can discard him because of a silly social standing, you were never really in love with him at all.

True love crosses many borders - age, time, distance, gender... so many other things too. If your love will not cross a single border, it is not love, it's just a high school crush.

Note that I'm speaking from my experience and the experiences of my friends/patients (yes, I act a a psychiatrist for some people).

well what i actually meant was that for the majority at least, it means a lot. and judging by what RHCW said, she considers reputation important. there isnt anything wrong with that but it shouldnt prevent you from doing other things, like pursuing a relationship with a younger guy if you really love him

id like to date a older guy, but not really a younger guy... but it depends on their level of maturity anyway. but jjust as long as he's not older than 50 or younger than 18 then i guess im fine.

Red, Princess, relax. I'm not on the offensive or anything, I'm just trying to help you out.

I suppose I should come clean about my age (I don't think I've told anyone here, I'm 16. November 14, 1991. Yep, I'm old/young. (Geeze, I would've called myself an old geezer a couple years ago.)

I've also gone through quite a few relationships in that time, both physical and long distance. All of which I've been loyal and haven't broken off (save for one which was a bit of a mutual thing). I truly did believe that most of them would last (maybe that was my mistake), but I will never abandon my faith in them.

I have also dated and have had quite a few older women infatuated with me (for whatever reason). I suppose it depends on the person and the situation.

Oh, and being 16 is no reason for not being able to love in a meaningful sense. If you never think something will come of it, nothing will, it's psychological, and similar to a variety of situations (e.g. pain and religion). Also, yes, there are many instances in which these are mere 'high school crushes', however, it is possible that one may have a meaningful relationship during these times. It all depends on how far one wants to take it.

Dark, good to see you too. Was I missed?

This is the problem with high school. If you get out of school you'll find there are plenty of women that date and marry guys younger than them; my stepmom included. She turned 50 this year, and my dad is 44.

If you care about him, then say "Screw you" to the rest of those jerks. Love knows no age, and if you school is too crappy to seethat, I hope they have a good life rejected their soul mate because he's a couple years younger.

Response to the thread. Now I find out you broke up. Oh well. Take the advice to the next relationship.

Nicely said, though, that seems a bit harsh.

Though it is true! "Love knows no limits!"

In one of my previous relationships, a dear friend once told me...

"Age is only to the extent of one's mind."

There is truth in her words.

Also, I apologize for not addressing the result before.

It saddens me to hear that one must make such a decision; I wish you the best of luck in future relationships.
