i think they should stop airing Harry Potter movies unless they have some HBP trailer/sneak peak ready for us. It really gets annoying at times

I would love to see some of them on my TV, but Serbian TV is sooo stupid, they only put Harry Potter Philosopher's Stone about 2 in 7 years and nothing else. After I got satellite I never saw any movie Harry Potter (except GoF 2 and OotP 1 on HBO)...

Well, I know there is nothing more American or patriotic than watching magical Brits fight evil.

I think they're going for family-friendly viewing during a holiday that is customarily spent with family members.

Good point but why not show something with American symbolism in it ???
There are plenty of movies, not that I dislike Harry, but the movies aren't even that good. Rolling Eyes

Oh, I'm sure there will be plenty of patric movies with Fourth of July themes.... Born on the Fourth of July I'm sure will be playing at some point.
There really aren't many patriotic movies for kids, that they can air on ABC, perhaps. Plus, they want to get ratings. HP is popular, so it's a good choice if they're going for that.

Seems like most holidays lost their value. Most companies just look for money now-a-days. Razz

Do you have cable? If so, then you have ABC Family.

As for a British series on America's Independence Day -- I chuckled at that myself. On the flip side, though, not every one in America celebrates America's Independence Day. I mean, just because a foreigner lives here, doesn't mean that he should have to celebrate our partiotic holidays. Plus, there will be people vacationing here. Surely they shouldn't be forced to watch patriotic crap of every channel when they are in a hotel rooms that are sucking the souls out of their bank accounts. Last but not least, let us not forget the Jehova's Witnesses. They don't celebrate holidays. They deserve other options on July fourth.

There are people a hundred other groups that I am forgetting, but those are the only people that I can think of. I'm sure that the regular ABC will air plenty of patriotic things.

I think the stations just try to grab rights to whatever big-name movies they can, then look for times when viewership might be high to play them (although, a lot of people might be out at fourth celebrations rather than watching the family channel). I remember awhile back that, for several years, one channel (I forget which) would always play Jurassic Park around Thanksgiving. And The Wizard of Oz tends to show up every year around Thanksgiving/Christmas.

The films aren't American. The only thing American about them is that they are made be Warner Brothers. . . They are based on a british book series, the characters are played by british actors, and they are made in Britain. Explain to me what is American about these films again?

Actually, because they are produced by an American production company, they are technically classified as American films, not British films. Weird, I know.
