I have to agree that telling people to take the bus is rather unfair. It's just not reslistic to depend on buses in most places. In America, the bus system is sort of a dependalble option in metropolitan areas, but even then you may have to walk far to get a bus or the bus may make you late.
The problem is that most of America is not made up of large cities. It's made up of small towns, where the bus systems are so ridiculous that they are pretty much pointless. Where I live, we have three buses. That's it -- just three. One covers a town called Sharpeville, one covers a town called Farrell, and the third one cover the entire town of Sharon. They all go to downtown Sharon and Hermitage.
They only run from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. The central route can be caught once an hour at each stop, and the other two can only be caught every two hours. If they're early, your just screwed. Sometimes they run half an hour early, and they aren't told to keep to the schedule. They can run early if they want to. You never know whether you missed your bus or not.
It's impossible to use the buses regularly in this area. How can yu lay guilt trips on people who have to get from point a to point b in a timely manner on a regular basis? Riding the bus is almost like being punished for being a responsible adult with a job.
My bad, I must not have explained myself. I was pointing out how it is in Perth, not judging elsewhere, hence why I asked what people would do if they lost their licence. Which I still have no answer for lol. _________________

It's cool, and I do agree that in Metropolitan areas people should try to use the public transportation if it's safe enough. I know I would, and I have had to in the past when I lived in FL.
I also think that in America at least, public transportation needs to be re-evaluated. I think that the Government should sort of make it all one united system with a bus pass that can be used in NYC, Los Angeles, and anywhere in between. They should also make it more reliable and cover more suburban areas. I would love to be able to catch a few buses to get to school. That would solve so many of my problems, including the $75 parking pass that I'm going to have to buy! _________________

If your under 18 and in full time education we get free bus travel. You can get discount bus & train travel if your over 18 with an Oyster card [pre-paid ticket type thing] and the government are doing more to improve our public transport.
It just takes so long, and the prices are extortinate. £2, which is like $4, for a single bus journey, its disgraceful. And the condition of the buses and trains and stuff is awful. _________________

well stuff costs more in london... its an expensive city...
haha ours is cheap. a bus/ train ticket is like 25 cents... a cab is usually between a dollar to four dollars, although it really depends on the amount of time it takes to take you to your destination. _________________

Yeah London is an expensive city, but not everybody living here has enough money.
London Transport covers a huge area of London, including the surrounding outer borough's, where there's less jobs, poorer people, and the cost of living is still just as high. _________________
oh well here it varies... where there are poorer people there are cheaper stuff... not stuff with a standard price like transportation, gas, and mcdonalds, but generally, food, goods, and lodging are cheap. and in places where there are rich people, stuff are expensive.... well relatively expensive... _________________

I think in some places in the UK its like that as well.
But because London is the capital, they charge stupid prices because people have no choice but to pay it. I live in one of the surrounding borough's and everyone's struggling to keep up with everything.
In some petrol stations here at the moment their charging nearly £2 for a litre of petrol, and thats not even in London. But people have to pay it because most of the petrol stations have run dry because of the strike.
Its a lose/lose situation basically. _________________
oh well, gas still remains the same... the only things whose prices vary are those whose prices are not really established, like the price of the food in a single restaurant, or the price of snacks from the store. _________________

Even stuff like branded food is cheaper in some areas than others?
Our supermarkets charge the same for a packet of crisps in London than they do anywhere else.
Just the different supermarkets charge different prices.
The varying prices here are for things like petrol, accommodation, housing and travel mostly. _________________
well not restaurants with many outlets, like kfc, pizza hut, and mcdonalds.... and not stuff which appear on commercials with a specified price. a bag of local potato chips are more expensive in manila than in the outskirts. but its the reverse with imported potato chips like ruffles, which are more expensive outside manila. however, if you go to a single restaurant that doesnt have more than one outlet (like a small business), if it is located in an expensive place then the price is also high. if it is located in an inexpensive place then the price is low. _________________
