Perhaps someone should start another thread called "For or against affirmative action?" I think zen's argument, while focusing on black people, can be extended to other minority groups, and can be discussed apart from civil rights advocacy or even the election/candidates.
Thanks, but I just wanted to suggest it (and at the same time, sort out the different things I've been reading in this thread). I haven't thoroughly read up on affirmative action to share concrete opinions about it, so I leave the door open to others who do have concrete opinions.
I'm white.. and It's VERY!!! hard to get anything because of that. Going to college. Getting housing (If the need be).. Its soo very hard. You know..
I want to go to.. U of M.. it is very hard to get into that school.. But if someone was a minority group it is easy.
If I went up against a person in a minority group and we both had the same grades.. they would choose the minority over me. How is that fair? it's not..
Do we have a white history month? No..
Do we have White Entertainment Tv? No.. if we did everyone would call us racist.
I'm not a racist person.. Many of my friends are of a different color then me. I am the least racist person you would ever meet.
but I'm about sick and tired of people saying that we owe people of a different race because of something that happened WAY before I was born. It's not my fault or any body's fault of this generation.
We all need to stop with this stupid crap. We are all human no matter what color you are. You could be orange with purple polka dots and I would not care.
There needs to be equal rights to everyone. That's just not the case.. And it's disappointing. _________________
