i found this article in the "our place" paper, its kinda like the pennysaver but had anecdotes and jokes... please everyone read this since i have to type it all out...
Today before you say an unkind word, think of people who cannot speak.
Before you complain about the taste of your food, think of someone who has nothing to eat.
Before you complain about your husband or wife, think of someone who has no companions and is alone.
Today before you complain about life, think of those who died too early.
Before you complain about your children, think of those who cannot have children.
Before you argue about your dirty house, think of the homeless.
Before whining about the distance you drive to work or the price of gasoline, think of those who have to walk the same distance because they cannot afford a car.
Before you complain about your job, think of the unemployed families struggling to live week by week or day to day and would do anything to have your job in order to feed their families.
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
read it
own it
live by it...

definitely, many people get so wrapped up in their own lives and problems that they lose sight of the people who wish they had those problems.
i heard a woman in the grocery store once complain that she had to yell at her husband to clean out the garage so she can park her jaguar in it during the winter. i mean she was genuinely upset.
and i just looked at her and said "it must be nice to have your problems, i dont have a house, my husbands car is a piece of junk that is lucky to go half a year without a problem, and we had to choose to fill the tank to get to work or buy groceries this week. it must be nice to be a clueless rich b*tch"
needless to say she shut up _________________

That's true, and it opened my eyes. I've been complaining all day, but because I've got an infection.
Then you have to think about..
What about the sick people with no chance for a cure? _________________

OoO . . . I actually did this today. I am a cashier at Sears, and they have this new 8 week plan to clean the store. Literally, I cleaned the entire shift. Needless to say I complained a lot. Anyway, I was cleaning shelves by an entrance, and one of my coworkers went out to meet her brother. She came back in, and I stopped to talk to he for a few minutes. She went out to give him $1000. His 2-year-old granddaughter died on Monday. They have no idea what caused it, but she was at preschool and got sick. Her mother picked her up and took her to the emergency room, and her heart stopped a few times before she actually died. The little girl lived in Texas, so Charleen's brother needed money for arifair to go to the funeral. I was suddenly glad that cleaning off shelves in electronics and lack of college funding were among my biggest problems at the moment. How horrifying must it be to lose a young child so suddenly!

haha . . . we don't have a dishwasher, either. I really don't mind doing the dishes, though.
I do, however, hate hate hate! doing laundry. Everytime that I force myself to do it, I have to constantly remind myself that I'm lucky and doing the laundry could be so much worse. After all, it's not like I have to bang my laundry againt rocks ot anything.
It's my self-talk motivation for doing my laundry. _________________

lol laundry is easy. I only mind washing dishes when there are a ton of them or things are crusted on. _________________

i also prefer to wash by hand, i only use the dishwasher to sterilize bottles and if theres too many dishes or pots to do.
but sometimes the dishwasher makes the glasses crusty, and thats skeevy
i have always found laundry zenlike... but only if i have a w/d at home. since we dont i save money to have the laundry ladies wash it. my only splurge. _________________

i drop it off at the laundromat and they wash it, dry it and somehow magically fold it to fit all my clothes in the proper drawers.

Yeah. I feel bad about it now, because there are people laying in hospital beds dying because they can't afford a treatment, or because there is none. _________________

I had my laundry done at the laundromat like that before... the woman did a great job. I usually do my own, but I was so busy, and when I figured everything I had to do and all the quarters I was going to use anyway, I decided it would be more time efficient and cost effective to have the laundry done there for me. _________________

We have special tables for folding at Sears. You center shirts on it, smooth them out, and flip the sides up for a perfect fold. It also makes them flat. I want laundry ladies. God, I need to move to NYC. _________________

The problem is everyone asseses their life with those of better lives. No one reflects on people who have nothing to eat. And mostly if you have something bad to eat you think of those with something good to eat.
We are so used to our everyday lives that no one considers anything less they what they are recieving. Everyone just wants more. It's typical arrogant human nature. |
