If i could cancel a subject, I would cancel the "history of Magic" . I don't think it is really necessary. I think the wizards just need to know how fly, spell or something like that. How about you, what do you think? Question

I can't say that I would cancel anything. I will tell you that I certainly wouldn't select divination, but since that class is an elective I wouldn't have to cancel it.

History of magic is extremely important. We have to draw on the experiences of the past in order to progress. It's vital that students take in the history.

I don't think I'd want to cancel anything; I'm sure each subject serves a purpose. I personlly wouldn't choose Divination to take as a class, though.

Divination is pretty much useless to anyone who doesn't have the gift of the inner eye, so I'd cancel that. I'm sure 99.8% of people who go into the class will never/have never had a vision in their entire lifespan.

She'll only predict your death if you're one of the most well-known or popular students.

Even Dumbledore didn't seem to think Divination was quite necessary.

I would be fine with all the classes considering that Divination is an optional elective.

Dumbledore didn't seem to think heterosexuality was quite necessary, either.

If I could cancel any subject, probably Divination, because like everyone said the class is useless unless you have the Inner Eye.

Scorpius is the name of Draco's son. He was named after a constellation, just like Draco.

You'd have to be desparet or lazy to take that class.

Divination was useful according to Dumbledore???

OotP chapter 37 (italics by me):

Quote:
"The thing that smashed was merely the record of the prophecy kept by the Department of Mysteries. But the prophecy was made to somebody, and that person has the means of recalling it perfectly."
"Who heard it?" asked Harry, though he thought he knew the answer already.
"I did," said Dumbledore. "On a cold, wet night sixteen years ago, in a room above the bar at the Hog's Head inn. I had gone there to see an applicant for the post of Divination teacher, though it was against my inclination to allow the subject of Divination to continue at all. The applicant, however, was the great-great-granddaughter of a very famous, very gifted Seer and I thought it common politeness to meet her. I was disappointed. It seemed to me that she had not a trace of the gift herself. I told her, courteously I hope, that I did not think she would be suitable for the post. I turned to leave."

Dumbledore only hired Trelawney because she made the prophecy, and she would be unsafe outside of the castle (which is why he didn't allow Umbridge to kick her out in OotP).

This is evident also from Trelawney's own recollection of the event (HBP chapter 25 - "I must confess that, at first, I thought he seemed ill-disposed towards Divination [...] but then we were rudely interrupted by Severus Snape [...] Well, after that, you know, Dumbledore seemed much more disposed to give me a job.")

I agree with everyone^

I would cancel Divination. It is useless for those who don't posses the "Inner Eye"
