Oh, and I love the Old Testament, when read as folk stories full of beautiful metaphors.
How can you say you love the Old Testament?
"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a pretty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser, a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomanical, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."
I was going to write this in my own words, but Richard Dawkins sumed it up for me far better than I ever could.
I'm an atheist if you couldn't infer this from my remarks.
That's like saying people shouldn't like HP because Voldemort is so evil.
Old Testament God is all those things and that is why it is so good to read. It isn't for a moment boring or bland or watered down. It is an insight into the minds of the people who live by it and the people who composed it. The most brutal things are often the most beautiful.
Except that no one bases all their morals and live their lives based off of Harry Potter. And God is suppose to be the Harry Potter in the bible, not the Voldemort.
Oh, don't think for a second that I believe Old Testament God to be the one and only, brilliant creator of life itself. For one thing, I'm a pacifist, but beyond that, I couldn't live with myself if I got all my morals from some out of date book. I read it because I love historical context. _________________

Oh very sorry, misinterperted what you meant when you said you loved it, I infered you meant you believed it. I completely agree with you then, I have yet to fully read the bible and I plan on doing it this summer along with many other pieces of religious text such as: The Koran and The Satanic Bible. _________________

Lol that's okay, I thought figured there was some confusion going on 'cause I agree with you on most things, I've noticed. Now to end this giant quote tunnel. _________________

Yeah, the stories are actually interesting, but you have to filter the actual stories for the begats, and it just is a headache. _________________

It's written as guideline and to be studied.
I don't read instruction manuals because they are boring. IF you want something read, you need to make it interesting. I don't think the Bible would lose any integrity or truth or educational value it has if it was novelized. _________________ They say home is where the heart is, so your real home's in your chest. --Captain Hammer

yea i skimmed thru those, i could care less who was related to who. i just like all the firey brimstone destruction... angry god stuff
puts a more believable spin to the nicey nice god loves everyone blinders that people wear today.
and imo the bible has nothing to do with actual christianity, it is a text that church elders had written over thousands of years in order to convert and keep people in moral check.
but its a good read... until the new testament where its just repetitive. i wasnt impressed with the multiple points of view. i kinda pictured that sports announcer that likes to circle things circling all the points that were already made and commenting on them.
No. You don't say Gaelic, It's Irish. Both my parents can speak it and they're Chinese!
Actually, the formal name for the language is Gaelic. Some people call it Irish because that's an easier name, but it still is, traditionally, Gaelic.
Anyway I think this is my first time posting in this thread, so I'll point out I'm Roman Catholic. _________________
