Quote:
Harry Potter U.S. publisher Scholastic has announced plans today to release a special edition of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on September 23 to celebrate the 10-year anniversary of its publication. The edition will feature new material from J.K. Rowling and new artwork from Mary Grandpré.

The book will cost $30.00. There are currently 28 million copies of the original version of the book in print in the U.S., and 375 million copies of the books worldwide in 65 languages.

We don't yet know what type of material J.K. Rowling will deliver for the book but will let you know as soon as we do; Mary GrandPré's contribution is a new cover depicting Harry gazing into the Mirror of Erised, and a four-color frontispiece (the artwork inside the book that precedes the start of the narrative). The artist said:

“It's a real treat for me to get another chance to visually bring Harry back to his fans in not only a new scene, but in a new light...Going back to draw the first cover for the anniversary edition was an opportunity for me to show another side of Harry... a vulnerable side. Having come to know and love Harry the way we all have, after experiencing the whole series, I think we can appreciate him even more on an emotional level.”

I like it MUCH better than the original, that's for sure. I'm not a fan of her artwork in general, but it's an improvement from the original cover, imo.

lol, me too!

Marta's artwork is near perfect... Whatever preconception anyone had about how they looked or how a scene looked, her artwork is inarguabley acceptable, for the most part.

Is Marta the girl whose artwork you are always posting? If so, then I'm so there.

Artwork isn't about bringing every one else's vision to the page. It's about bringing the artists vision to the page. That is whu Grand Pre's artwork doesn't bother me. I mean, she does make a a few mistakes, but most of them are small ones. I think that her artwork serves its purpose attracts the audience that it was originally meant to reach.

Yeah, that's the Marta. artdungeon.net, she's awesome.

I accept that those pictures are part of her vision, but I think her work in general isn't done well. But it's a matter of opinion, lol. I think JKRshould have done the artwork herself. Very Happy

Maybe shes rewriting all the books... in a different point of view.

for example instead of starting with harry and the dursleys, she can start at the malfoy mansion.

and do the whole book in his POV. oooooo then he can end up with ginneh.

i like this idea.

I never really like Grand Pre either. I think her perception of a lot of the characters and situations that she illustrated are off.
