yeah the hitler thing...but the palpatine pics I find funny because he really does look like him! in my mind it has nothing to do with whether I agree with him or not, which I don't really know because I don't know very much about him at all.

Doesn't matter, it's against forum rules. Not trying to be a Negative Nancy. But if you put a picture of MLK like that you'd be considered racist. I don't see any deference with religion.

imho this is called a 'joke'. I've seen several of the same 'jokes' bashing things I believe in, and I laugh about them, because I know they are meant as a joke.
I'm not saying it's a good thing to do, but I also think people should be able to take a joke.

And thats your opinion. I was just stating my opinion. And just because its a joke doesn't make it right. You made the choice to not say anything when be said stuff about what you believe in, i made mine.

ok let me explain something.... i guess the pope thing could be offensive to people without a sense of humor... but my picture should not be offensive to anyone because my goddess... is female.

thats my religion.

so anyone with a problem with my dean picture can take a long walk off a short pier.

this thread is great people get to discuss religion and i feel, as long as theyre not putting people up on stakes or seeing if they weigh as much as a duck... then its fine.

thats the great thing about freedom... someone can joke about the pope...

and if youre offended. sorry. lighten up already and stop trying to cause trouble.

Not quite. I was raised Roman Catholic, didn't get my Confirmation 'cause my 'rents split and all religion was lost. Now I am Agnostic, so I believe in the possibility of a deity, or many but, as there is no proof and I've been without religious people in my life for a fair while, I haven't subscribed to one particular religion. If anything, I would go back to the Catholic Church.

I believe in science, and everything we have found to be the most accurate I take in, everything with less proof I am interested in to learn but not to absorb, where this fits in with my religious beliefs? I don't believe that humans are the be all and end all, I believe our lives are as important as any other living thing that has and will exist known or unknown, I also believe that our humanitarianism is good on principal but because we have so much knowledge, or at least believe we do, that we have a duty to our creator, to protect everything else he has created as long as it doesn't force our own species to extinction.

Oh, and I love the Old Testament, when read as folk stories full of beautiful metaphors.

How can you say you love the Old Testament?

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud of it; a pretty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty ethnic cleanser, a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomanical, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevolent bully."

I was going to write this in my own words, but Richard Dawkins sumed it up for me far better than I ever could.

I'm an atheist if you couldn't infer this from my remarks.

Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness over through freedom of speech when it offends someone because it can offended someone, thus, not being able to pursue happiness. Just stop posting things like that. Pretty simple..

And another thing im not trying to cause trouble...

That's like saying people shouldn't like HP because Voldemort is so evil.
Old Testament God is all those things and that is why it is so good to read. It isn't for a moment boring or bland or watered down. It is an insight into the minds of the people who live by it and the people who composed it. The most brutal things are often the most beautiful.

Except that no one bases all their morals and live their lives based off of Harry Potter. And God is suppose to be the Harry Potter in the bible, not the Voldemort.

Actully, I would say Dumbledore more so than Harry. Either way, neither of them were perfect.

Yea you're right with the Dumbledore not Harry, neither of them were perfect I agree, but neither of were as malicious as the god of The Old Testament.

People choose to be offended. Simply choose not to be. It isn't hard.
