I like Snape. He wanted alot of things and he could have done alot f things but he gave them up to follow and obey the person in command over him
first voldemort then dumbledore.
i dont approve of his chice to become a death eater. but he repented and dumbledore forgave him

Snape brought so much more to the books. Sirius was only alive in 5 of the books, and 2 of them we weren't aware of his existence. The 3 we were aware of, he was barely around. While he was always a beacon to go to when Harry was seeking advice, and acted as the father-figure that Harry never had, he just pales in comparison to Snape. Snape was a constant in every book. He brought occasional humor, consistent antagonism, and a large portion of every plot in all of the books was built around him. In the end, he also turned out to have been doing a great deal for Dumbledore and sacrificed all that he was to repenting for his betrayal of Lily, which meant protecting the last remaining piece of her; Harry.

Note: Hopefully I interpreted the question correctly. I assumed you were asking who the better character was, not the more saintly.
