Darwinism is what I truly believe in. Every living thing has evolved from single celled organisms into more complex ones, over billions of years. There is no ultimate force, each organism has it's own 'life force', this earth has the heat and material to support all these organisms.

Apart from that, I believe in myself. I believe that through practise and training I can become anything possible with a human body. As long as you truly belive in yourself, it is possible.

I've been fine without any other religion or God for almost 19 years now, and I've never felt like I was coming short on something like that.

nobody's my religion. Sad

i'm UCC. United Church of Christ. We are Christians, but we are pretty lax about things. Like, we accept gay ppl. Unlike catholic churches... that's what pretty much separates us from other branches of Christianity. Spongebob Squarepants and Barack Obama are part of our denomination. Smile

Okay, question. Why call it non-denominational if it's considered a denomination?

I'm not arguing with you, just riffing off of what you said. I don't see how God and evolution are incompatible. I don't know...it seems things fell together so well that it almost had to have had some guidance. though...as I've said in here before, its not perfect. and that would be why there's evolution. like xp upgraded to vista (though some would call that downgrading lol) the fish upgraded to a lizard, or however that works lol I'm not a science major. Or it could be "God" for lack of a better word made teh world and it sort of went and did its own thing.

and juleh...maybe they just didn't want to think of a name lol. or its sort of the spirit of the idea...it doesn't matter what church you belong to. you just happen to worship at a nondenomonational one...but it doesn't define you.

When I was about three my mum got my baptised, so I'm catholic. I had no choice so i couldn't go against it or anything; and now, 10 years later, i don't believe in god/jesus/basically anything along those lines. I believe in science and what that Darwin guy said about stuff (we're talking about it in biology at the moment, lol). So you could say i'm a catholic in one point of view, i guess, but i dread telling people because it's not what i really believe in or anything.. *sigh*

I'd much rather be an atheist. You could say i was an atheist, 'cause i don't have anything to do with the catholic church or anything..

Ugh,
Oh so confusing. Neutral

You're defined by your beliefs (or in some cases lack thereof), not by how you were raised. If you do not assert the existence of a god, then you are by definition, an atheist. Hope that's helpful information.

They aren't incompatible per say, it's just that evolution destroys the need for a god. Throughout history god has always been an existence that 'fills the gaps' of our scientific knowledge; if we don't understand why the Earth revolves around the sun, it's because god did it; if we don't understand why there are mountains, rivers and other geological structures, it's because god did it; if we don't understand how life got here it's because god did it. With modern science, and now evolution, there is no need to throw in a god of the gaps fallacy because there aren't any gaps to fill.

That's just it though, they didn't "fall together." Natural selection caused more intelligent, more complex, and more intricate life-forms. It isn't random at all - it's the exact opposite of random. Evolution is the unrandom survival of self-replicating genes.

its not just lifeforms...but the condition to sustain lifeforms. and how did this all get here? it makes more sense in my head that one thing (what some would call God) came out of nothing, than everything coming out of it. but I can't prove any of this, so I don't expect anyone to believe me lol. aren't mutations random? maybe the survival of them isn't, but a fish didn't just think one day, "it would be great if I had these protrusions coming out of me to support my weight so I can go on land. oh yeah...I'll need lungs too".

you are talking as it it was predetermined for seacreatures to eventually go ashore. This is not true. Like you say, it is due to mutations. A random mutation, gave a certain creature a benefit above others, for instance easier access to food. This increased the creature's chance of survival, and thus also the chance of multiplying, with which he could pass the genes, which gave him the advantage, on to his offspring.
This did not go in large steps. It's not like a fish suddenly got a pair of legs. This went over the course of thousands and thousands of years.

But it is not like everything 'Fell into place'. It started at a certain point, and from there it changed , eventually making us what we are. It didn't work into that direction, there were countless options, and this is the form in which a creature can, in the current earthen climate, survive.

Curious fact: the human race is actually a dying race. The diversity of the human race is as good as down to one species. Most races have tens to hundreds of different species. This way, when the living circumstances suddenly change, there is a high chance that at least part of the total race will survive. Homo Sapiens Sapiens would, had we not the current technology, die at such an event.

when poeple don't believe in god (not don't get all "ruffled" people) what do they think will happen to them when they die?

and why can't god have created space then let nature take it over. i mean how do you people (that don't believe in god) think that space was created. something (or someone) had to create it

They believe that space created itself. They don't think any one or anything created it, that it just exists, scientifically speaking.

My answers are going to be a lot nicer than the atheist's answers... brace yourself. *ducks and covers*

That's what I tend to think sometimes.

But keep in mind, what seems perfectly logical to you, seems illogical to others. It's weird how that works out. So while believing in a higher being makes perfectsense, to someone else, believing in a higher being is complete nonsense.I don't try to understand, only believe what I can and hope for the best. And if I'm wrong, well, it's not like it hurts to believe or anything.

So where did this god come from? It's just as far-fetched to believe that there is some big kahuna who came from nothing as it is to believe that the earth came from a big bang and no big kahuna over-seeing it.

so why not believe in the big kahuna? why not not Razz well to me atheism seems bleak...I like to believe in something more...such as the big kahuna or souls. it just seems less lonely and nicer and if neither really makes sense...I'll take the one that makes me feel better about everything. but some people like things I don't really understand...and I guess thats why there are atheists lol.
