I am sure some of you, and probably most of you, know that schools are playing Quidditch. They are even playing it in leagues. I think that this is quite bizzare, but actually a good idea. If your school plays Quidditch, post an answer here. If you think it is a good idea, post here. If you like pie, post here.

I think it sounds like fun.

I've seen videos on youtube of them laying in water and that seemed to make more sense to me than them playing on land. The land version sounds sort of absurd to me, especially the parts about them running with broomsticks between their legs.

was it like a version of water polo while in the water?

Seems like it wouldn't be that cool if it wasn't in the air.

Just watched a version of it on YouTube...

Seems okay.. but the idea for the snitch needs to be worked on.

I always thought that the water quidditch seemed all right. I like the way that they got around the snitch problem by having phony snitches. I knid of think that is would be better if they had hundreds of little balls in the pool and only one was the real snitch. That way it wouldn't be over as soon as the real snitch gets thrown in.

I think that making quidditch leagues in school is going a bit overboard, though.

I like that idea. I feel like it's too.. whats the word... set-up if someone has too much control over the snitch, ya know?

I know completely what you mean. It's the one thing that really ruins the game for me. Otherwise, I think that water quidditch is a great idea.

Are you serious? I mean come on. The only way this would be viable in the real world would be if the rules were changed completely. Like this:

-Three innings in a game, each of which is ended when the Snitch is caught.
-Goals worth 1 point, Snitch catch worth 4.
-Allow the Seeker to touch the Quaffle but make it illegal for the Seeker to score.
-Take out the Beaters entirely. They only detract from the game. You can't exactly play proper defense if you are tracking Bludgers around the pitch, especially if the other team has the Quaffle near your goal and you're on the opposite end of the pitch chasing down a Bludger. Employ new coaching strategies for defensive formation of the Chasers when they give up the Quaffle.
-Make a BENCH (this is very important) for substitution and/or line changes, it's illogical for an entire team roster to consist of 7 players (5 minus the Beaters) and have all of them on the field of play at all times. Ever heard of injuries?

This, imho, would make Quidditch competitive and possibly even a viable pro sport (maybe that's going too far lol), instead of some child's play where only one person on the team is allowed to score the game-winning goal.

They aren't perfect versions, I know, but really, that's about as good as you're gonna get without acually flying. Seriously. I just thought that this was interesting.

I agree with you. No sport is perfect. Quidditch sounds like amazing fun. Adding those cliched rules to it would change the sport drastically and it would lose interest fast, since it would be so different from the sport in the books. Changing the rules would defeat the purpose of the playing game.
