Page 301 of the British Edition:
"Contemplating the task ahead would not make it easier or the water warmer. He stepped to the pool's edge and placed Hermione's wand on the ground, still lit. Then, trying not to imagine how much colder he was about to become or how violently he would soon be shivering, he jumped."

Ok, on my re-read of this, I now realize details. He had Hermione's wand on him, so he could have done magic t make the water warmer, couldn't he? Or he could have cast Impervius or some kind of warmth bubble charm on his entire body so he wouldn't feel the cold. Why did Harry not think of this? Is it because Hermione wasn't with him? Because if that's the reason you're going to give me then it just proves that Harry is just all guts and no brains, which isn't a good combination.

Well... Couldn't snape have challenged harry to a duel and allow harry to win? Harry would have taken a risk by accepting the duel wouldn't he?

Snape was on Harry's side... so it wouldn't have been very brave to win to someone who was fighting to let him live and waniting him to get the sword. If Snape let him win, then Harry didn't really do much, did he.

^ It would have been brave, since Harry thought Snape was on Voldemort's side.

But Snape couldn't do that anyway, since DD told him not to let Harry see him.
