I have..

Animal Farm
The Catcher in the Rye
The Great Gatsby

There are some really good books that are not on that list. But those three are the only ones I have read. In my opinion "Animal Farm" was not the best Others that were a lot better should of been on the list.

i have read:

Animal Farm, The Catcher in the Rye, Clockwork Orange (watched the movie, but still including it), The Grapes of Wrath, The Great Gatsby, The Lord of the Rings, and 1984 (starting next week)

We have to do a 7 page term paper on an American Author and I chose Fitzgerald, author of The Great Gatsby.

Hey americans! Do you only read Orwell? He's an excellent writer, and I must confess I agree whit the ideas the book contains. But did you understand him? Or were you only seeking for another excuse, a bit more smart, to curse comunism? For instance, Orwell considered capitalism and stalinism (not comunism), as the same system. Businessmen are pigs.
What about Mark Twain? I expect at least you've read one of his memorable novels. Or essays. He was really critical of american government, which killed one million people in Filipinas and Cuba between 1898 and 1900. These essays were not published until 1990. Stalin would be very envious of american books ban.

I'm not surprised Gone with the Wind is on there. It's great book!

I've only read To Kill A Mockingbird and The Great Gatsby and those were both during school. I'm really surprised The Picture of Dorian Gray isn't on that list, but I suppose not many people really like Oscar Wilde.
