Many people think that Cedric Diggory's death was unneccesary. Vote here and tell me what you think.

I think it was completly unnecessary, terefore, necessary It marked the rebeginning of Voldemort's reign of terror. He was the first casualty, it was sad, but realistic. It was another unnecassary death... which is what made it necessary.

I don't fully understand the phrasing of the questions or the options.

necessary, shows voldemort's cruelty perfectly, it would not make sense that if cedric went with harry to the graveyard that he would come back alive

yeah, the factthat he was able to justorder Wormtail to "kill the spare" set us up for the rest of the series... Voldemort doesn't care wh he takes down in his path to get to Harry.

exactly what i meant, it is a way to introduce us to whats going to be years of terror and death

i was so sad that cedric died cause he was a really good guy but i understand that it had to be done, otherwise it would've been unrealistic

No, he was just faking his death so it would look like Harry won the Cup by himself. He didn't want to share it, he felt like Harry deserved the whole thing, remember?

of course his death was needed. it showed the reality of things. and it showed that harry would have to grow up.

True. I showed that life was no longer just Hogwarts and the tension was building up until the final rebirth. Harry to learn that people were going to get killed. A lot.

I think it was necessary to validate Voldemort's evilness by attacking/killing someone the audience/reader was attached to.

It also lent more credence to the story for Harry and DD to promote that Voldy was back (and killing again).

Yes, the reason why I said yes was because it caught the reader's attention and made the story more sad and greatly intresting.
But it was tragic, and it was to disturb Harry a little so that he and Wormtail could get up before Harry could do anything to them.

If Cedric didn't die the first Ghostly shadow who would have came out would have been a stranger, not Cedric. I believe it would have been the old muggle man who took care of Riddle manner. Don't you think Harry would have freaked out seeing some old man come out ? Instead, he saw Cedric who told him to hold on to his wand and keep the fight going.

It was necessary in the plot, because it kinda gave harry a bit of a wake-up call. Oder of the pheonix could not have happened without this, because its part of OoP's plot that noone believes him, and that cedric's death was an accident. I don't think Voldemort was ready for people to know he was back yet, so he killed the evidence that was Cedric. Harry was not supposed to live, therefore, no proof. So it was necessary for the plot in the story, but completely un-necessary for the Dark Lord (No, I'm not a death eather, lol) to kill him. Just in my opinion.

It also helped develop the relationship between Cho and Harry - Harry would finally have a chance with Cho, so they would get it over with and the plot with him being with Ginny could continue. With Cedric in the way, Cho would have never made up with Harry, even though it was for pure moral standards.
