So I have been wondering what sort of education do young wizards receive before they turn 11. I'm not sure if its mentioned in the books, I cant find it anyway so if you beautiful individuals in all your hp glory could help a brother out...

I love you all

I don't ever remember Kids learning about it under 11. I am sure they learned small things from there parents because they are not allowed wands until 11 so a school of witchcraft would be kind of pointless for toddlers. I think they just go to muggle schools to learn basic math and reading.

i think jo said in an interview that wizarding kids are either home schooled or sent to a muggle school (i think this would be the case of one borned from muggle/wizard parents) before going to hogwarts

I think that bonbon was talking about just basic education. The kids have to learn to read somehow.

Here is what Jo said about the subject:

What education do the children of wizards have before going to Hogwarts?
They are, as many of you have guessed, most often home educated. With very young children, as you glimpsed at the wizards' camp before the Quidditch World Cup in 'Goblet of Fire', there is the constant danger that they will use magic, whether inadvertently or deliberately; they cannot be trusted to keep their true abilities hidden. Even Muggle-borns like Harry attract a certain amount of unwelcome attention at Muggle schools by re-growing their hair overnight and so on.

I dont think they go to school before hogwarts because Ginny was always home with her family

I always assumed that they were home schooled. because of the danger of staying hidden.

I doubt that wizards would send their children to Muggle schools. Wizarding children have always seemed to alienate themselves from muggle children, and attract odd attention. Problems would run rampant.

I always assumed that they were home schooled too. They made it a point to point out that parent's were responsible for not letting kids do underage magic and monitoring them in the meantime.

When they said that "The Trace" only applied to magic, not the wizard, I came to this conclusion. Because kids can't control their magic... seems like a lot of ministry clean-ups if the kids went to muggle schools.

Well, they kinda had to be. They were just picking up on some new things at home, and then they go to Hogwarts when they turn eleven. Homeschooling.

That's true Bery, I too never really go through all the posts if it's over 3 pages of posts, but this thread is only one page and there really isn't much to read.

hey just as long as we all contribute! im just glad people took the time to try and answer my question. I always thought it would be funny if Hermione kept up with her muggle school work as well. I dont believe that she would just drop her studies ( I know 4th or 5th grade cant really be considered studies lol)

as we do know that muggleborns obv go to regular school or home school, wizards probably get homeschooled...
